Releasing the album now (or during the summer) is a waste
that Universal is not going to do.
This statement, I understand, but not necessarily agree with.
Mainly because I do not know the marketing/release schedules part enough.

An example of what not to do is the release of the latest
album by U2. Universal/Rolling Stones will do everything
possible to avoid suffering the same fate.
This, I am NOT familiar with.
I know the album, 40 previously released songs, remixed, redone, reinterpreted, etc.
Not sure what the "suffered fate" is/was. Can you explain?
The album was released in January, on the coattails of Bono's sold out solo/book tour.
I assumed it was a successful release, paving the way for Bono to hold a NYC residency starting this weekend at the Beacon.

I'm mostly agreeeing with you here Rev. I truly appreciate GeorgeLicks for all his info and insight to these types of situations especially since he works for Universal. Now we've went from 'no rush' .. It's not not a top priority from The Stones and Universal to supposedly they don't want to release it until possibly CHRISTMAS or later (??) even though it's now actuality finished? Ummmm >> Cut the Jive It's all Horse Poo whether its all true or only partially. Lol Wth?
With that said .. every year his lines have been: There is no rush on the album .. The Stones are relaxed about it ... ie No big deal. Now it's Universal does not want to release it blah-blah-blah. I am not implying his is fibbing .. I am simply saying if what he says has been true all along .. Send Universal AND The Stones a 50 pound bag of coffee so they can hopefully wake up and smell a pot >> People are tired of waiting and if they carry this passive approach / lack of any urgency or real importance on much further (year after year there is some other excuse from The Stones or Universal) .. it will hurt the release not help it. Journalists are already asking 'why so long?'.
The Stones have put themselves on the spot with their teasing of clips on social media and their mentioning of the album for >> seven years. Every year it's 'maybe next year' or this .. or that. Sure it will still sell ok either way BUT many people are very close to being turned off because of it (as they became with Chinese Democracy) and it becomes a bummer as opposed to actually any positivity surrounding it when it comes. If they release it ANY LATER than at some point in the fall of this year ..... the album wont really matter so much and it will not carry as much oomph / weight. It is a fine line .. The Stones .. even though They are who they are and still carry the longest wait time people will tolerate .. they will still hurt themselves. The positive wait time expires after this fall.
Tired of seeing 'its this reason' ..or 'OK .. now its that reason' ... and there is 'no rush' .. and now there is this other hang up or now there is another hang up at every turn or every three months why there is no album and no release date in sight for years on end now. Put a fork in it and put all that BS / Lame Excuses to rest.
*I mean get this ... They (some members) used to actually say over at IORR it is because The Stones need things such as ample 'Family Time' .. << Hahahahahah!!! Ummmm Okaaaay? I suppose recording an album required the members of The Rolling Stones and their limited resources for their staff being sent to a prison in Cuba or something? How on earth do other older acts do it so easily all along (perhaps they never get to see their families? )?
Its been 18 years, yo .. ..
