If they're not going to put out an actual new album while they're alive, they better keep those Eagle Rock releases coming like they're Grateful Dead Dick's Picks.  Two a year.

I'd be happy with the other 2 rumored FFSO vol 2 and 3

I thoroughly enjoyed the first volume of 50 songs...not sure what or when the new volumes would be from, but I WANT THEM!!

4.- Living In A Ghost Town

And all the studio songs released on compilations since A Bigger Band

But wait, they better get their hairy asses on the studio or better, in a house living all in the same house (similar to Nellcote) with some weed, booze and acid and finish a new studio album

IMO, this is the sort of thing they should have been doing for at least the last decade.  Springsteen puts out an archive release mixed by Bob Clearmountain every month (when he's not touring - from 2014-2017, every ESB show got released a couple of weeks later, although I wouldnt expect the Stones to do that). Other artists release old shows regularly - even dead ones like Bowie!

the archives releases are a very limited market - however, so are the expanded studio reissues, which require a lot more actual work. May as well open the floodgates before those of us who care about these things all croak. There are probably about a thousand shows since the early 70's sitting in their vaults gathering dust - and the longer they do, the condition of the tapes are more likely to become unusable.

We couldn't even get the complete Roundhouse show out of them.

I'm not religiously following the Springsteen releases, but my impression is that these are chiefly digital-only offerings without packaging and distribution costs.  Wouldn't that reduce production costs for the RS?  But I suspect that releases in physical packages are an ego boost for a certain age of rocker.

For all the disservice Clearmountain's brickwalled re-releases are doing the fans, he ought to be working for free.  There are no less than three fan-made unbrickwalled conversions of Tattoo You on Demonoid.  They went up within days of the re-release, which demonstrates a certain consensus in dissatisfaction.  Again, I blame an older rocker's concern with being competitive in the marketplace, and not with the archival demands of the core purchasers.

Keith Richards hints at the imminent arrival of a new Rolling Stones album,

by Jones
August 10, 2022

...

Keith Richards reveals that new ROLLING STONES music is forthcoming, as he, Mick Jagger, and Ronnie Wood are joined by Charlie Watts’ replacement drummer to complete a new album. The Rolling Stones are currently on their SIXTY European tour in honor of their 60th anniversary. Mick Jagger, Keith Richard, and Ronnie Wood are working on new material for a new album despite the fact that the group’s members are approaching their eighties and drummer Charlie Watts passed away last year.  Keith Richards told Apple Music 1 in their The Rolling Stones: 60th Anniversary Special podcast that the band will have recorded new material by the end of the year. Anyway, I just create records and then we determine how they turn out, correct? That is my job.”

Although the 78-year-old noted he was unsure if the new songs would be accessible via streaming services. Assuming The Rolling Stones are working on a new studio album, it would be their first since 2016’s Blue & Lonesome, a blues cover album.  A full-length album has not been released by the band since 2005’s A Bigger Bang. Prior to his death, Watts was unable to perform with The Rolling Stones for the first time in decades. He assured the rest of the band that Jordan would be able to fill in.  Richards recalled thinking, “I cannot accomplish this without Charlie.” Watts countered, “You can do it with Steve. He may occupy my seat at any time.”  The guitarist continued, “And he convinced me to do it. I adored that man, Goddamn it!  Additionally, it would be their first since Watts’ death a year ago. Richards has previously confirmed that their new drummer Steve Jordan will contribute to the completion of a new album.

'Imminent', my bollocks.

What a clickbait headline.

More hot air.  You'd be forgiven from this and recent interviews for thinking that they've binned everything they've recorded between 2015 - when these sessions started - and this year.

Seriously - how difficult can it be for a band with two songwriters (three in fact) to record a dozen releasable songs over a time frame of seven years?

I predict two things

- this aint happening in 2022
- this aint bringing Ian Billen back.

Nico Zentgraf and Martin Eliott's pages both reporting that the Stones are back in an unnamed studio in New York since late September

http://www.nzentgraf.de/books/tcw/works1.htm

http://stonessessions.com/

Additional musicians listed as Steve Jordan, Darryl Jones, Matt Clifford and, (according to Nico), Bernard Fowler and Chanel Haynes

(Chanel was the backing singer who guested on 'Gimme Shelter' in Milan in June and subsequently lost her role in the Tina Turner musical for her trouble)

This would coincide with Jagger taking in a B'way show the other evening.
I did notice the conspicuous absence of the dancer with him.
This may pan out something worthwhile...
hopefully not 2 singles to go along with a 60 Licks best of compilation.
