FWIW, B Vik reiterates today: "the Stones will tour behind a new album"

although his projected dates for such a tour seem to be slipping
from early summer to late summer, and now with some arena
shows mixed in with the usual stadiums. So yeah, we're onto plan B

1) Tay and Bey are sucking up all the oxygen, doing an amazing
amount of stadium dates, with more likely to be announced,
right up to the start of the NFL season. Bey's tour seems to have
been a last-minute decision and so may have altered the
Stones plans 2) the Stones made worldwide news for joining
TikTok, which is vital for any level (beyond one week) of
streaming/chart success, but their TikTok initiative remains
completely kaput as of now.

I have to say
The winds seem to be blowing that way

If you've something to say
Don't be too direct
Cause I feel a little fragile
Don't hit the nail on the head
I said, baby, baby, let me down real slow

USA 2021 was special. I'd even say heroic.
Soldiering on without Charlie.
Soldiering on while every other artist was sheltering in place.
Ghost Town having made a decent-sized splash
Thus: The 77 year-olds had the biggest tour of the year.

USA 2023 couldn't be more different.
Seems like every major draw is hitting the road.
Now strong rumors about Rihanna and Miley too
Intense competition for venues, crews, transport
Not to mention event junkies, tourists, bucket-listers,
corporate expense accounts, and media

So, yeah, I can still see the album maybe happening later
this year. But unrelated to any tour. In fact, I would say
instead of a tour is why we might get it.

fwiw, Noise11/Paul Cashmere have broken the media
silence with both (1) a non-confirmation of the tour, and
(2) an unsourced confirmation of the album

While it has been confirmed The Rolling Stones will release their
first album of original material since 2005 in the coming months,
dates for a North American tour are also starting to surface.
Stones fansite iorr.org has been compiling expected dates...
The dates may or may not be accurate...

...and, for what little its worth, here's my current guess:

the album right after Labor Day, with the various bonus versions
of the album being released right up to Christmas, with there being
some USA hot-ticket arena-or-smaller gigs during this period,
likely including SNL. No big shows til early 2024 (way down south).

Well, about the tour now I have doubts, serious doubts, but please at least release the new album and I mean studio album with new own material, not the same recycled material

(from the Tour thread, but mostly about the new album)

Why do people believe nonsense?

Think for one minute please. There were never any signed
contracts. Venue sources cited options at only four
locations, all of them ridiculous in terms of marketing an album
under current 2023 market conditions. Unless you only care
about reaching your base.

If the Stones only cared about reaching their base, they could
have released at least 4 new albums over the last 17 years,
they have that much strong material. What they havent had
is any path to reach a broader public, who doesnt give a shit
about the Stones.

A gimmick, if you will. For example, the best gimmick of the
last 10 years: that silly fictional Bohemian Rhapsody movie.
Suddenly there were 1000s of TikToks with youngsters miming
and dancing to Queen. That band's American-Idol sound and
catalog went viral and hasnt stopped since.

The Stones would love to have that. But frankly there's not
enough kids with ears these days. There's enough to make
a decent-sized ripple with the youngsters, but not a big splash.
And without the kids, you can sell an album for one week
to your base, and thats it. No matter how great it is.

So the Stones simply said "fuck it, we're not gonna release
our best shit and have it ignored. All that would do is hurt
our reputation and ticket sales. So if that means nothing
gets released til after there is no more Stones, so be it"

But now theyve got a plan for this Christmas time. A massive
release of strong new material with a sharply focused marketing
campaign. 2023 is only about this big big album that shows
off every facet of the Stones and every genre that theyve
mastered. Its not about Edmonton Canada. This album will
greatly enhance their legacy, whether it goes viral or not. Because
of its sheer size and audacity. A rock'n'roll Burj Khalifa.

Back to BV's fictional Tour: According to BV, literally two days
ago 14 contracts had been signed and the announcement was
scheduled for Friday, but now suddenly for no "critical" reason
theyve decided to pay all those big cancellation penalties
and just walk away.

What a silly premise. Some of you people will believe anything.

As planned, no tour this year. Probably next year, the southern
hemisphere early, the USA late summer, Europe 2025.

This year its just the ALBUM and the smaller venue gigs
promoting it. Focus your ticket efforts there. Start with
the SNL season 49 opener (date TBD)

The latest from BV

My understanding is they are working on new dates for the fall.

More misinfo. They are not. No big shows this year.

TikTok, the ppv thing, the "leaks" etc have all just been
Stones dot biz doing market testing, preparing for the real
marketing campaign in the autumn, for the album

One thing theyve learned is that they dont have an easy task
ahead of them. The market for any new music by them, beyond
their base, is as cold as ever.

What's so exciting, for me, is that Mick and Keith have decided
that this new body of work is so good that they are going to
devote the year 2023 entirely to it, with little to no hope of
getting paid handsomely for their efforts.

For the first time in a long time, this year is entirely about the
music, not the dollars. Whether or not the world wants what the
Stones currently have to offer, jesus christ are they gonna get it!

I’m hearing ya Rev
I’m thinking the touring days may well be over.
Has the band themselves mentioned anything about touring 23?
Or has it just been ‘sources’

Bring on the new album

Deathgod, I think their intention is to tour the southern
hemisphere early 2024, the USA late summer 2024, and
Europe early summer 2025

Whether the world's luck holds out that long, I can't say.

Its become such a fountain of misinformation over there,
I think Bill Gates will acquire it and re-name it MS-IORR...

Let's start here, with the delusion thats underpinning
their entire ridiculous narrative: That the Stones
are naming the tour after the album.

This is not 1994. These days comedians make JOKES on
TV about legacy artists who try in concert to force feed
their audience of casuals a new album. Naming your tour
that way is equal to telling the masses to stay away and
wait for next time, when you'll again focus on your hits.

Also on MS-IORR they cant get their story straight
whether the tour is holding up the album or the album
is holding up the tour...

So I repeat: Their album this year is a passion project
which they will not undercut with a tour. They will use
media appearances/small gigs to promote the hell out
of the album, theyre proud of it, and will give the album
a chance to breathe. If by some miracle the album breaks
big this autumn/winter, then maybe they'll name any
2024 tour after it. If not, they'll just get back to their
main business, which is throwing hella parties, calling
the tour probably "Sixty-Two". Or better yet "62+62".

(today, according to variety-dot-com "the album’s production
is nearing the mixing phase")

Is that now 500 or 600 guest stars rumoured to be on this album now?

I say album but with all these guest stars it could be one huge box set.  I'll get ready to remortgage the house to pay for this.

Today on MS-IORR, contributing essayist Doxa included this sentence
in his lengthy opinion piece on the ALBUM...

"We are witnessing a luxury project that probably for the first time
in the history of the Stones is done just for the sake of art itself"

Jeez, is my fringe thinking becoming the conventional wisdom?
That would be weird.

(however, let me push past Doxa and say that their other two most
recent albums, Blue and Lonesome and Fully Finished Outtakes
have already set this pattern of them finding ways to get great
new Stones music out there even though the market has not
been exactly clamoring for it)

I only recall Dua Lipa at this point...

Are they only vocal duets? Or can we expect Ringo on Drums, Macca on Bass, others actually playing on cuts?

Anyone photographed in the same room as the Stones in the last year is apparently going to be on the album, even if they just happened to be dropping by to say hello or working in the studio next door.

At this rate, I'm unconvinced that there'll be any room for Mick, Keith or Ronnie on these songs, never mind Charlie.
