Whatever. The important point stands...

It would be quite odd to start a new website for a Stones
album, but not odd for a charity single by the "Hackney Diamonds".

You would want no mingling of the financial accounts. (this new
website was registered in late April)

The "Hackney Diamonds" have also set up Twitter/X and
Instagram and TikTok accounts. @hackneydiamonds

Again, definitely not something you do for a new Stones album.
You would be mocked.

So, as of now, until contradicted by new evidence...

HACKNEY DIAMONDS likely is a superstar charity project to be announced Sept 6th

BLACKSMITHS is likely the title of the new Stones album coming in October

The precise inspiration for Ronnie's new painting "blacksmiths"...

...

"The Smith and the Devil" is an ancient Indo-European fairy tale,
recounted by the Brothers Grimm among others. The story is of a smith
who makes a pact with a malevolent being — commonly the Devil —
selling his soul for power, but then tricking the Devil out of his prize and
re-gaining his soul...

Fucking perfect!

I mean, c'mon, its obvious Mick commissioned this painting.
Ronnie thinks visually. Mick thinks classically.

Another clue: If you want a signed, numbered, and personally dedicated copy
of Ronnie's painting, the deadline for buying it is Sept 4th. Why Sept 4th?
Why so soon? Why not til closer to Christmas? Could it be that we will be
receiving new info right after Sept 4th that will change our perception of
this painting's importance?

Also, a shouted "My dude!" to IORR's Topi, a very fair and fun
sometime-critic of mine and an excellent provider of solid info

But I do have to say, dear Topi, that "rocking the blues" never made it
to my list of serious speculations. It was just the best place-holder
name that I could come up with that captured the broad mega-nature
of the upcoming album. I came up with about a dozen names before
that with the same theme, from "Everything but (the kitchen sink)" to
"Everything Butt" to  "A Dog's Breakfast"

The theme, not the name, was/is the serious speculation.

I knew Mick would top me, which he has, with "Blacksmiths",
a perfect metaphor for the Stones, a perfect concept to guide us
on this journey through the musical history of the last 100 years,
courtesy of its most important band, the creators of by far its most
important body of work

So yeah, 50 tracks, why not? They've got 100s to choose from...

(And really its only 25 tracks, quite a few with co-writers, with the
rest being covers. And you're gonna have to buy at least five different
versions of the album to get all 50 tracks. Many long-timers will probably
be happiest with the first version, the most-Charlie version, the most
classic version. The other versions will be released in subsequent weeks )

Yessss!

Shorter.  Maybe half as long.

Yezzer... I realize that but I wanted to play it safe. If the album is coming by Oct-6 to Oct 20 ... A First week of September 'announcement' would make sense. Prolly the first single will come not long after ... week or two .. if not quicker (things move a bit faster than in the past after announcements).

I hear / saw Sept 8th as an announcement date floating around? I can't remember where. Who knows.. could have been jus another guess.

It was misquoted on here as the 8th when the quote actually said the 6th. The 6th is the date I've also heard from three separate sources. Either way, I'm sure we'll hear for sure next week.  I haven't heard any reliable info for an actual release date of the album yet, other than its expected to be in October.  Going by the time frame of a likely announcement, I'd therefore guess its in the second half of that month, in which case that would be either October 20 or 27.

Presumably he co wrote 3 of the songs with Mick (I cant imagine him co-writing with Keith). So, as per Mick and Keith's long time arrangement it gets credited to Jagger-Richards-Watt

Same system as when Woody, Pierre de Beauport or Steve Jordan co-wrote with Keith in the past.  The 'outside' songwriter only gets a third of the credit instead of 50%

I dont think Ronnie has had a co-composer credit since Dirty Work. He had four on that record. Chuck Leavell even had one as well.

I agree with what you’re surmising. I was just thinking about how easy it must’ve been for this new producer guy to get a cowriting credit, while full fledged band members such as Taylor and Wood it’s been near impossible over the years. I know nothing about Watt but Jagger must value his credibility to allow him cowriting credits.

Oh yeah totally agree. Maybe they've just got a bit more honest in their old age and are less disposed to screw collaborators out of royalties.  Watt maybe drives a harder bargain as their producer!

I mean it takes a special kind of brass neck to credit yourself as the composers of a song and merely acknowledge one of your sideman with a financially meaningless 'inspired by' mention :

Watt produced Iggy's latest album 'Every Loser' and is listed as a co-writer on all 11 songs

He has quite an eclectic list of production credits and seems to be a multi-instrumentalist

We should be hearing reviews of the new stuff this week. I expect to hear new Stones this Labor Day weekend. Has anybody checked the Hackney Gazette for further clues? Do we have any people in Hackney?

Still running with the 50-track idea

potentially the most difficult tracks for aficionados to digest will be the
Charlie tracks that Andrew (60 years! From Andrew to Andrew!)
has been brought in to "punch up" for youthful vinyl buyers

purists will scream

but the Jamaica and New York tracks will be untouched by Andrew. The
music on those will be strictly the domain of Keith, Steve, and Don Was.

There'll be tracks with 10 creators, and tracks that are pure Mick and Keith,
and everything in-between

Mick's vocals and lyrics and concepts and Keith's instinctive and distinctive
feel will be all that holds this thing together. Some fans will hate that fact.
"Bridges to Babylon on Steroids!", they will shout.

And I guess that would be another good rejected title for this
collection: just plain "Babylon". That's unfortunately what our
world has gotten to. A ball of confusion. So I expect this mega album
to therefore jerk us around somewhat hellishly...

...

(being jerked around chronologically and stylistically was one of the things
i very much enjoyed about the "Finished Outtakes" collection, but undoubtedly
i'm not typical in that regard. For most I expect being jerked around is
somewhat unpleasant. Fortunately, everyone now has the technology to
extract your favorite 12 or 24 tracks and order them as you please. How
is this not satisfactory? I constantly hear, as a complaint "if they had
only kept it to just these 10 tracks"
. How bizarre. YOU keep it to those
10 tracks. What is the fucking problem? I've only got 24 "fully finished"
tracks I listen to, in the jerk-me-around order I've chosen, and its one of
the greatest albums I've ever heard. The other 26 tracks barely exist for
me, and it bothers me not at all that many would pick an entirely different
24. Why in God's name would that bother anybody!? )

That photo is from December 2015 . As you can see there's one called 'Blue & Lonesome' and another called 'Hate to See You Go' (a Little Walter cover)- both of which ended up on the blues album.

'Drive me too hard'  (or rather 'Driving Me Too Hard')  is one of the titles that has now been listed with ASCAP,  Its documented that they were working on new songs before they 'hit a wall' and decided to cut B&L instead - which was duly done in three days.

'Get out of my way' presumably didnt make the cut as the Stones worked on other songs over the years - unless it was retitled as is often the case.

Other songs that we know of that have been recorded

Really Wanna Tell The Truth
Pride Before a Fall
(based on videos of the sessions posted by Mick in 2019 . See my post a day or so ago on reply #605. Again these may have been retitled if they werent dropped. Maybe 'Tell me straight' is a new title for the former)

Fool's Paradise
Bad Luck Hideaway
Never There
Bottom of My Heart

(these titles come from plexiglass photos like the above pic, from late 2015)

Mick also released 'England Lost' and 'Gotta Get a Grip' as a solo single in July 2017. It featured Ronnie and Charlie plus Matt Clifford, which would suggest it may have been at least partly worked on at the Stones session in London a couple of months earlier

'Living In A Ghost Town' was recorded in early 2019 and finished in spring 2020 shortly before its release.

As they've been working sporadically on this record for almost 8 years, no doubt theres a few more.  Certainly enough songs for two records (although whether the leftovers were finished or release worthy is something we dont know)

Little happy suprises abound.
Like Ian 'Ian' Billen looking like Tez Jones as the nude Hermit in 'Life Of Bwian'
Next time we could be hearing the nomanclature is actually 'Hackney Wyman's', with Big Bill making a gust appearance, riding a mare, nude but proud.
