@realDonaldTrump
Kim Jong Un talked about denuclearization with the South Korean Representatives, not just a freeze. Also, no missile testing by North Korea during this period of time. Great progress being made but sanctions will remain until an agreement is reached. Meeting being planned!

Something tells me that a "reset button" will not be incorporated into these talks.

Edith, this is pretty high stakes poker hopefully to lead in some positive outcomes for peace and stability. Trump better not agree to naming Dennis Rodman as Tillerson's replacement during the meeting though!

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/china-approves-plan-to-abolish-presidential...

" Xi cleared to rule indefinitely as China officially scraps term limits   "

" BEIJING — China’s National People’s Congress on Sunday approved a plan to abolish presidential term limits, making it possible for President Xi Jinping to stay in power indefinitely and cementing a dramatic shift in Chinese politics.

At Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, on the western edge of Tiananmen Square, 2,964 delegates cast their votes, with 2,958 in favor of the constitutional amendment, two against, and three abstentions and one invalid vote.

The ballot, which was largely symbolic, came two weeks after Communist Party-controlled media announced the proposal. It included other changes designed to put Xi and the party at the very heart of Chinese life.

It is the clearest evidence yet that Xi plans to rule beyond the end of this second term, in 2023, taking China back to the era of one-man rule just as it steps up its role in global politics.

“It means that Xi is now unquestionably a Leninist strongman,” Steve Tsang, director of the China Institute at SOAS University of London. Xi, unlike his predecessor, is not first among equals but “lord and master of them all.”

Though state-controlled media insisted that the constitutional changes had “won the hearts of the people,” the news spurred a wave of public worry about a return to the despotic politics of the past.

“It’s a historic retrogression,” said Li Datong, a former editor of China Youth Daily, a state newspaper.

“Throughout history, only Chinese emperors and Mao Zedong had lifelong tenure until their deaths,” Li said. “And what came out of that was a disaster for the society and many painful lessons.”

The move marks an end to a system put in place by Deng Xiaoping in 1980s to prevent the rise of another Mao, who was chairman of the Communist Party from before its accession to power in 1949 until his death in 1976.

“If the constitution of one nation can be amended by the most powerful person according to his or her will, the constitution is not a real constitution,” said He Weifang, a law professor at Peking University.

“The legacy of Deng Xiaoping's efforts to avoid lifelong presidency have been abolished completely,” He said.

Though the power grab has earned Xi comparisons to leaders such as Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russia’s Vladimir Putin, his vision for China is singular — and will have an impact well beyond China’s borders.

Since his ascendance in 2012, Xi has moved quickly to consolidate power at home and trumpet an ever-grander vision of China’s place in the world.

At a Communist Party congress last year, his signature theory — “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” — was enshrined in China’s constitution. He started his second five-year term with no clear successor.

Party media have since amped up the hagiography, casting Xi as the father of the nation and the man uniquely equipped to lead. What remains to be seen is how Xi’s new strongman status shapes governance on the ground.

Xi has built his presidency on a bold promise to “rejuvenate” China and put the country back at the center of the world. Now he must deliver, experts said.

“Everyone expects that this will make Xi Jinping a stronger, more decisive leader, but it's also possible that he will need to justify this change by maintaining his popularity,” said Mary Gallagher, director of the Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies at the University of Michigan.

“That doesn't bode well for difficult reforms ahead: Will the CCP be able to raise the retirement age? Enact a property tax?” she continued.

“A second-term president with nothing to lose might have been in a better position to enact these changes and accept the blame before stepping down.”

Tsang, of SOAS, said the constitutional change signaled a worrying trend: the elimination of dissenting views in policymaking.

“This shows he has now narrowed the scope of internal policy debates so much that no one dared to counsel him,” he said by email.

“If Xi is right, he will be more effective in getting his policies implemented,” Tsang said. “But if Xi gets it wrong on any major policy matter, God (or Marx) help China, for there will be no one else who can.”

Carl Minzner, professor at Fordham Law School and the author of “End of an Era: How China’s Authoritarian Revival is Undermining Its Rise,” said Sunday’s vote showed that the political norms that have governed Chinese politics for decades are coming undone.

“The risk now is: As those norms and institutions steadily erode, how much of the earlier instability could return?”   "

A DC 'airport ticket agent' offers some examples of why the US is in so much trouble!

1.I had a New Hampshire Congresswoman (Carol Shea-Porter) ask for an aisle seat so that her hair wouldn't get messed up by being near the window. (On an airplane!)

2. I got a call from a Kansas Congressman's (Moore) staffer (Howard Bauleke), who wanted to go to Cape Town.
I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information, and then he interrupted me with, ''I'm not trying to make you look stupid, but Cape Town is in Massachusetts ..''

Without trying to make him look stupid, I calmly explained, ''Cape Cod is in Massachusetts , Cape Town is in South Africa ..''
His response -- click..

3.. A senior Vermont Congressman (Bernie Sanders) called, furious about a Florida package we did. I asked what was wrong with the vacation in Orlando .
He said he was expecting an ocean-view room. I tried to explain that's not possible, since Orlando is in the middle of the state.

He replied, 'Don't lie to me!, I looked on the map, and Florida is a very THIN state!!'' (OMG)

4. I got a call from a lawmaker's wife (Landra Reid) who asked, ''Is it possible to see England from Canada?''

I said, ''No.''

She said, ''But they look so close on the map'' (OMG, again!)

5. An aide for a cabinet member (Janet Napolitano) once called and asked if he could rent a car in Dallas ..
I pulled up the reservation and noticed he had only a 1-hour layover in Dallas ... When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said,
''I heard Dallas was a big airport, and we will need a car to drive between gates to save time.'' (Aghhhh)

6. An Illinois Congresswoman (Jan Schakowsky) called last week. She needed to know how it was possible that her flight from Detroit left at 8:30 a.m.,
and got to Chicago at 8:33 a.m.

I explained that Michigan was an hour ahead of Illinois , but she couldn't understand the concept of time zones. Finally,
I told her the plane went fast, and she bought that.

7. A New York lawmaker, (Jerrold Nadler) called and asked, ''Do airlines put your physical description on your bag so they know whose luggage belongs to whom?
'' I said, 'No, why do you ask?'

He replied, ''Well, when I checked in with the airline, they put a tag on my luggage that said (FAT), and I'm overweight. I think that's very rude!''

After putting him on hold for a minute, while I looked into it. (I was dying laughing). I came back and explained the city code for Fresno , Ca.
is (FAT - Fresno Air Terminal), and the airline was just putting a destination tag on his luggage..

8. A Senator John Kerry aide (Lindsay Ross) called to inquire about a trip package to Hawaii . After going over all the cost info, she asked,
''Would it be cheaper to fly to California and then take the train to Hawaii?''

9. I just got off the phone with a freshman Congressman, Bobby Bright from Ala. who asked, ''How do I know which plane to get on?''

I asked him what exactly he meant, to which he replied, ''I was told my flight number is 823, but none of these planes have numbers on them.''

10 Senator Dianne Feinstein called and said, ''I need to fly to Pepsi-Cola , Florida . Do I have to get on one of those little computer planes?''

I asked if she meant fly to Pensacola and fly on a commuter plane.

She said, ''Yeah, whatever, smarty!''

11 Mary Landrieu, La. Senator, called and had a question about the documents she needed in order to fly to China . After a lengthy discussion about passports,
I reminded her that she needed a visa. "Oh, no I don't. I've been to China many times and never had to have one of those.''

I double checked and sure enough, her stay required a visa. When I told her this she said, ''Look, I've been to China four times and every time they have accepted my American Express!''

12 A New Jersey Congressman (John Adler) called to make reservations, ''I want to go from Chicago to Rhino, New York .''

I was at a loss for words. Finally, I said, ''Are you sure that's the name of the town?''

'Yes, what flights do you have?'' replied the man.

After some searching, I came back with, ''I'm sorry, sir, I've looked up every airport code in the country and can't find a rhino anywhere."

''The man retorted, ''Oh, don't be silly! Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!''

So I scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, ''You don't mean Buffalo , do you?''

The reply? ''Whatever! I knew it was a big animal.''

Now you know why the Government is in the shape it's in!

Could ANYONE be this DUMB?

YES, THEY WALK AMONG US, ARE IN POLITICS, AND THEY CONTINUE TO BREED.

I don't write it, I just offer it for your consideration.

I'm hoping that Trump doesn't open up with "Hey Rocketman! How ya doin'?

<  ------------- Some Guy     .... ?!  ... !!!!!   :

http://www.omaha.com/opinion/hugh-hewitt-a-summit-how-to-for-trump-by-nixon/arti...

" Hugh Hewitt: A summit how-to for Trump, by Nixon and Reagan "

" It was announced last Thursday that President Donald Trump has accepted an offer to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Will it be Munich 2.0, where the evil man with the evil ambitions cons the world? Or will it be a "reverse Munich," where Trump sits down to explain in his inimitable style that it's his way or no highway for Kim? And not only no highway, but no infrastructure left standing near any weapons site or any of Kim's many palaces and hideaways in rubble.

Whatever Trump's approach, he can learn from his predecessors in the Oval Office.

As the world buzzed with reactions, I joined former Attorney General Edwin Meese III in front of a couple hundred people gathered for the annual Friends of Ronald Reagan dinner at Los Angeles' California Club, where Reagan would gather with his Kitchen Cabinet to stand up the administration that would change the world. Meese ran that transition and stayed at Reagan's side for eight years.

Because the announcement of the North Korean offer and Trump's acceptance came hours before our conversation, I asked Meese about the Reykjavik summit between Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in October 1986. There's a famous photograph of a grim Reagan and Secretary of State George P. Shultz leaving what many at that moment believed to be a failed sit-down.

Gorbachev made sweeping offers, Meese recalled, but quite craftily saved his big demand for the last day: All the big cuts in the nuclear arsenals he proposed would come only if Reagan would abandon his Strategic Defense Initiative.

Reagan knew his own mind so thoroughly, Meese said, that this would never happen; Reagan knew going in what he would never agree to. When Gorbachev demanded the unacceptable, it was over.

There was much hand-wringing outside the White House, but Reagan was vindicated as the Soviet Union slid rapidly toward dissolution.

At summits, resolve matters. If Kim gets a dose of something he has never gotten before — an ultimatum of denuclearization vs. destruction — it could work.

Similar advice comes from Richard M. Nixon, who had arguably the most successful summit in modern U.S. history when he met with Mao Zedong and "opened China."

In his 1980 book "The Real War" (which then-candidate Reagan was photographed carrying around with him as he campaigned), Nixon devoted a chapter to presidential leadership, including summits. His key admonition:

"But a President should go to a summit only if the stakes are worth the risks, and if the meeting is thoroughly programmed in advance. No American President should go to a summit with an adversary unless he knows what is on the other side of the mountain."

The entire chapter, 37 years old but as relevant as though it were written yesterday, should be circulating through the White House, from which we have to hope national security adviser H.R. McMaster does not depart and to which perhaps could be added former ambassador John R. Bolton as leader of a special working group. (If you read Bolton's memoir "Surrender Is Not an Option," you will see just how deeply versed he is in the North Korea issue).

In "The Real War," Nixon wrote that "if I could carve ten rules into the walls of the Oval Office for my successors to follow in the dangerous years ahead," the first one would be "always be prepared to negotiate, but never negotiate without being prepared."

If the president goes with one message — full and verified denuclearization — and sticks to it, the details of implementation can be worked out later. But even it's a reverse Munich or a Reykjavik in the Pacific, that is preferable to a photo-op that bestows prestige on one of the worst people on the planet.  "

" China's growing cult of 'Emperor' Xi Jinping "

" China's future now rests firmly in the hands of just one man - its leader Xi Jinping.

Following the brutal Cultural Revolution of the 1960s and 1970s, China's leaders vowed never again to allow one person to rule the country.

But now many people are now calling Xi's presidency, which began in 2013, the "Era of Emperor Xi".

Having abolished time limits on presidential terms, it is believed that Xi - already the most powerful man in the county for a generation - could remain in charge for years to come.

One of millions of teenagers sent to work in the countryside during the Mao era, the cave in which Xi lived and worked has become a tourist attraction.

The village to which he moved is treated as a quasi political pilgrimage with thousands of Communist party members visiting it every year.

His time there doing manual labour and living on rations have been used to craft Xi's image as a man of the people.

It was there that the idea of "Xi Jinping thought", now officially enshrined in China's constitution, started to take hold.

China's propaganda department has gone into overdrive in recent years for Xi, with his socialist principles being sold in a variety of ways to the public.

On the streets of Beijing posters with his face appear everywhere - he is the embodiment of the Chinese socialist dream.

But for Xi's critics, many believe their ability to dissent is slowly being eroded.

Some feel, with many of their peers already in jail, that they may have to ultimately leave the country.   "

Let's jump back to the 50's with tariffs and a trade war. The inflation this will create will eat into any tax breaks the middle class got.

Before this was announced and the markets dipped I wonder about insider trading by friends of you know who.

Wonder what Kushner's view is like from under the bus?

I remember the Cold War all too well. I never thought that I'd live to see the day Russia took over the US but that's what has happened. Trump is clearly Putin's puppet, which means Putin effectively rules the US.

I hope this is over soon. And that it doesn't spawn a new era of McCarthyism.

What's all this talk about a Russian pee tape?
