The last I'd heard of Elton and Keith not getting along was Elton shooting some tiny digs at Keith in his book when I read it last year, but it was nothing really...I think they're over that

Tbh I also think, concerning Mick and Keith, that since Keith isn't drunk anymore 24/7 he stopped running his mouth and babbling dumb shit so he doesn't randomly offend Mick anymore...these past few years they've only said very sweet things about each other in interviews that lets you know how much they love and respect each other

Big line in the sand drawn after the 'tiny todger' furore in 'Life'

Supposedly,, that was easily the closest they've come to calling it a day since the mid 80's.

It took a fair bit of contrition on Keith's part for Mick to work with him again.

Its noticeable that since they did in 2012, a lot of the changes have been on Mick's terms - sober guitarists, no Blondie Chaplin, etc.

Before the dead blonde songs comment by Keith, I always remember how he used to compliment Elton John's piano playing. In fact, he said something like: I remember Reg Dwight from back in the day and he was a pretty good piano player.

I know I've driven folks BAT-E, and nearly
got myself into a BAT-L Royale, over my
insistence that they were intentionally
invoking the Dark Knight mythology...

First Fallon did the BAT-phone, then I
pointed out their BAT-signal, and Keith
as BAT-man on the BAT-plane, and their
arrival in Hackney in their own BAT-mobile

And so watt does Andrew Watt say in that
latest big Stones article?

Watt says he hopes one day to finish the rest
of the songs. “It’s like Batman,” he says.
“They put the tongue up in the air, and I
will fucking be there...”

...

More from that big BAT-article...

Although Hackney Diamonds has 12 songs, the band worked on between
23 and 29 tracks in their blitz, depending on who’s telling it, meaning
they have plenty to work with if they want to make another record.
Jagger says some of the other songs that they’re holding onto for now
had messages of social commentary. “It’s all within the Stones’ orbit
of music,” Jagger says. “I don’t think we’re really breaking out. There’s
a few tracks that we didn’t release that perhaps were a little bit more
different in sounds and styles than you’ve ever heard the Stones do before.”

Why all this talk of more tracks and another album nearly done?

I've given my answer before, so I'm just re-asserting it...

For artistic reasons, for business reasons, we're gonna get a second
version or deluxe version or some kind of Hackney Diamonds version
in mid-November with these extra songs, including Ben Waters and
more Charlie Watts for sure, Dolly Parton speculatively, and who
knows what else...

I've read some really interesting comments by Mick and Keith once about that whole mess up about Life. As it seems, the gutter press (as always) has blown this up (and sometimes still does if they have nothing better to write about for clickbait) WAY out of proportion. Like apparently Mick and Keith talked about it, Keith apologised, they talked stuff out and then had a base to go on again after this better than the years before because they finally just talked, which I guess lead to the never ending touring phase since 2013...

Here I found it again, it's from a 2012 interview:

Keith: (Mick) and I have had conversations over the last year of a kind we have not had for an extremely long time and that has been incredibly important to me. As far as the book (Life) goes, it was my story and it was very raw, as I meant it to be, but I know that some parts of it and some of the publicity really offended Mick and I regret that.

Mick: Looking back at any career you are bound to recall both the highs and the lows. In the 1980s for instance Keith and I were not communicating very well. I got very involved with the business side of the Stones, mainly because I felt no one else was interested, but it's plain now from (Life) that Keith felt excluded, which is a pity.

Somewhat of an alternative viewpoint: Its been clearly stated that Mick
reviewed the book beforehand and never asked for the todger thing to
be removed. In other words, Mick approved it as a publicity stunt to
boost Keith's sales, and it worked a treat...

And it was publicized as the big feud thing, to cover up the real issue that
almost ended the Stones, Keith's alcoholism. Mick had played hardball with
that SuperHeavy thing. All the Heavies had signed with Irving Azoff, it
was just waiting for Mick's signature for a two-year tour featuring the
music of the Stones, Bob Marley, the huge worldwide following of
AR Rahman, with Eurythmics and Joss Stone tossed in for good measure.
The album was not to be the ticket-seller. It was those music catalogues.
Talk about warhorse-based shows, the fucking Stones and Marley hits
together in the same show...

Mick wasn't bluffing. "Keith, I'm signing with them unless you quit drinking
and leave the biz decisions to me". Keith wisely folded. Some people say
Mick used and betrayed Dave and Joss, but Mick never promised them,
never signed. Them two just counted their chickens before they hatched

Keith had folded privately, it was a big deal, so in return Mick did
the "todger" stunt and many other unpublicized things since to,
with Steve's assistance, help build Keith back up. Alcoholism for Keith
was way worse than junk. Its his greatest conquest, kicking the bottle.
Its just not romantic, like heroin, so its not talked about much

Interesting story there, Rev...I never heard about that thing with SuperHeavy and the supposed contract there before but admittedly I also never really was interested enough in that solo project of Mick's to dig any deeper....I don't doubt for a second tho what you said about Keith's alcoholism problem because this also always has been my impression in retrospect these past years...I mean, hell, even Ronnie who seems to get along perfectly well with everyone and always seems so happy and like he'd never be pissed at someone, complained about Keith being unbearable when drunk (somewhen in the mid-2010s before Keith finally quit hard liquor, and while Ronnie himself already was sober)

OK, it's been slow winning me over, but Angry's an unlikely, and not instant, classic.  Like a more urgent Don't Stop.  And thank God for the urgency.  CGI excellent in the video.

Are you sure your turntable won’t play at 45 rpm? My Rega Planar 3 does, but it’s not so obvious as a switch; you have to remove the platter and switch the belt to a different spindle.

Credit where credit is due. Back in the day, when I was one of the
ones who was pissed off and making noise about Dave and Joss being
left in ruins, it was iorr's "rocky dijon" who provided me with some key
pieces of this puzzle...

Back when this chart talk started, georgelicks had said that they had no
chance in the US or UK to have a Top 100 hit, and he's admitted now
that this news for him is a big surprise...

Of course it doesnt nearly vindicate my Top 10 prediction, which was
based solely on my (imagined?) cavalry of you-tube reactors riding to
our promotional rescue...

We're in the new chart week now, and still no sign of these troops.
But for now i am choosing to cling to my "embargoed-reactions theory".
I won't give up on Angry being a true worldwide hit until they
formally announce a release date for the Gaga song.

(the trickle continues, this is my fave recently, this kid is entertaining...)

Once again the headlines are a hoot...

Rolling Stones filming intimate documentary
with team behind The Kardashians

A film charting the production of their new album

All I can say is:
The Gaga moment! She's sitting on the floor, just chilling, NOT staged
for the camera, when Mick urges the shy superstar up to the mike,
NOT staged for the camera, and the little lady floors everybody by
belting it out of the ballpark, with it NOT being at all staged for the camera.

I'm getting goosebumps already.

Yeah I hope to see the Gaga moment but what I hope to see even more after the way Andrew Watt described it in those articles is Mick and Keith recording Rollin Stone Blues, however Ronnie mentioned Andrew Watt threw eveeyone out of the studio so just Mick and Keith were there, so I'm not sure whether they actually filmed that...but one can hope...anyway, all we were asking for was for them to finally give us some new songs after 18 years, now we get probably not even one but another album soon too and a documentary and a new tour in the planning! What a time to be a fan of the greatest band in the world <3

Don't worry. "Everyone" might have got thrown out of the studio for
that poignant musical moment, but "everyone" doesnt include the camera
crew. The film will build to the swirling climactic "sweet sounds of heaven",
and then the screen will darken. We'll hear only Keith's acoustic guitar for
a few moments before the lights come up, but only dimly, so we see their
two iconic faces carved in shadow, with each vocal note and each guitar
note stretched by the weight of almost a hundred years. The last note
from Keith rings unnaturally for an extra second, as the screen darkens
again, and the credits roll in dead silence.

1) This is funny I think. It was driving me nuts to be checking out the
Lady Gaga reddit every few days without there ever being any mention
of "sweet sounds". Honestly I was guessing that I would get some
leaked info there before we got anything official from the Stones.
I mean, 109K members...

But then when we got that faux newspaper thing from the Stones with
the big Gaga headline, and plenty of news stories concerning the collab,
I figured her reddit would be buzzing like crazy...

But not a goddamn word. I realized that they get their info there only
from a really narrow range of official and semi-official sources. I have
to wonder if they even know how to google "gaga"

anyway i took matters into my own hands and posted the Gaga
newspaper over there with my caption "Rolling Stones begin to hype
Lady Gaga's co-lead vocal on the 7-minute-long single "Sweet Sounds
of Heaven" (coming soon). In their 60-year career, this is by far the
most prominence the Stones have ever given a guest vocalist."

So, after one day, I got 4500 views, a 100% up-vote rate, and 43
community karma points (whatever they are). Which is very kind
of them, since I didnt even know how to post the pic correctly...

And that concludes my highly successful reddit career...

2) Nobody anywhere is mentioning the Paul song lyrics
(and there's a lot of Paul fans on iorr dot org)

I ain't on a chain
I'm fucking with your brain
I got the world to worry about

I'm a lyrics person, so I already like this Paul song.
But will Paul people like these lyrics?
(and no, I am not gonna visit the Macca reddit to
find out the answer. that's a bridge too far)

Very odd indeed that the Gaga and Paul McCartney fans aren't talking more about this, probably they only will after the songs are officially out and once Gaga made a post about it or so xD

As for the lyrics, the ones for the McCartney song are my least favourite so far tbh and I also wasn't so excited to hear that it's a punk song because I couldn't stand the punk song Mick did with Dave Grohl (which is odd cause I like some, granted younger, punk bands like Billy Talent, Bad Nerves and Rise Against), but let's see how it'll sound in the end before ultimately judging it

I love Get Close and Depending on You tho, so fucking beautiful, I don't think I'll get over "I invented the game, but I lost like a fool, I'm too young for dying and too old to lose" anytime soon...

I also love the entire first verse of Depending On You, sweet imagery...on Get Close, in the first verse when Mick sings "lately I can't get no sleep" and his voice breaks at "get no" because of his breathing I think it's always interesting when they leave stuff like that in, which is "unpolished" or not perfect...I like that...it kinda reminded me of that line in Torn and Frayed that sounds a little like he's supressing a laugh/ or also breathing uneven when singing "who's gonna help him to kick it"...that has much more appeal to me than the auto-tune used on Angry

Are people expecting old-school angry punk rock music with Paul?

I'm like totally expecting pop-punk...

with processed Paul joining in vocally on the chorus

I mean, on Angry, the bridge-verses(?), the parts that have more
melody ("please just forget about me, cancel out my name..." etc),
which are the parts most likely written by Andrew, that's pop-punk.
As are, sorta, those processed outro background voices ("Angry...
Don't be angry with me"
)

Also, what are your expectations for the doco?

Netflix?  Youtube I hope.

Before, same day as, or after the album release?

I would expect that the vid for "sweet sounds" would be essentially
an excerpt from the doco

Also, I don't think the lead vocal on Angry is auto-tuned. But
I do think its processed, so that certain frequencies/timbres of
his voice are emphasized or de-emphasized at certain moments.
Auto-tune is a blunt instrument, used gently by literally everybody
these days live on stage to slightly auto-correct things. My understanding
of processing is that its like faceting an irregularly-shaped diamond by
hand. Labor-intensive, moment by moment decisions about what sounds
best at each particular moment (as an example, "at 2:32, make that note
more nasal, so it sounds more punk").

So you can choose to leave in whatever "flaws" you want, because you
like the way they sound, or re-shape any "flaw" to make it more or less
obvious...

The guitars on Angry have been processed too. Before recording,
you've been able for decades to plug in whatever FX pedal you want.
But now you can apply those kinda pedal-FX in post-production as well.
You can even process the drums if you want, to make Steve sound more
like Charlie (or vice versa)

So I'm quite certain processing would be used on every song* on this
album. It will just be used more heavily, and thus be more obvious,
on certain tracks

*with the possible exception of "rollin' stone"

bottom line: this is a pop record, like Sticky Fingers, not a roots
record, like Exile. I thought they would be forced by age into
making a roots record, but I was wrong. God bless Andrew Watt.
