BITCH...That was during IORR...prolly singing "But I Like It" WHAT A SHOW!!!
I am not just saying that because I am part of this asylum called ROCKSOFF either!!
After calling me crying that he is lost (thank you mapquest), Tom finally arrives at my house all shooken up, I make him a cup of tea to settle his nerves. We finally get on the road...
25 minutes later we arrive at the hotel where 1/2 of SHIDOOBEE was stying at...also about a 30 second walk to the pre-show party at the Backyard Bistro. I made a few new friends...drank some beers and decided to take a disco nap after a nice dip in the pool.
ON TO THE SHOW!!!
We walk across the street to the show and find the Lucky Dip gate...in hindsight...it was weird...Tom and I were INSIDE the stadium (me with a beer in my hands and rum minis in my pocket) and STILL didnt have our tickets in hand...
So...the moment of truth...we open up the random emvelope and go to the map...I see the location and I think, "OMFG!!! We scored what is arguably the worst pair of seats possible!" Absolute side of stage...upper level...and 2 rows from the very top. Tom starts to mutter something under his breath...I look at him and say lets go exchange these...we traded them in at customer assistance (not guest services)...
I claimed to have had a panic/anxiety attack due to the height and couldn't even make it up the stairs. I am talking to a good cop/bad cop pair of staduim attendants...the bad cop says, you need to see guest services to upgrade...the good cop say, "Wait, how many tickets are we talking?" I reply just "me and him"...she waves off the other woman and says "let me see you tickets", and gives us 2 new tickets...LOWER LEVEL...50 yd line...halfway down... (in the $350.00 section).
What a great set the band played. Jagger name checked NC State Wolfpack...Dook Blue Devils...and UNC Tarheels...Then a name check came out that I was very happy about...Jagger comments on the fact that the immediate area is called RTP...Research Triangle Park...(think Silicon Valley East) and that we are all smart here...I work in RTP for a cloud storage company, so I took the shot out personally.
At the start, Mick was not mic'd as well as he could have been, IMO...this was fixed (I think) mid way thru IORR once he was out on the catwalk. The guitars were a tad on the tinny sound of the spectrum, BUT...this was good, for I think it helped the guitar to be heard clearly in a stadium.
Shine a Light was a great surprise...loose and with rhythm and lots of swing. Out Of Control sounded awesome in that stadium. Moonlight Mile ...tender and sweet, on a full moon night too !! I was soooo happy to hear LSTNT and the conspicuous absence of D&G was a treat. The Vegas horns all sounded great as did Lisa & Bernard. Lisa, however, could have been mic a bit better on GS.
After the show...Tom and I went and watched the motorcade file out from under the stadium with the cycle cops and we saw shadows wave at us from most vehicles!! Tom said it best...if they would switch out 3 or 4 songs in the first half with surprises...the warhorses are welcome to stick around for the second half.
THANK YOU TOM... GREAT TO SEE SAINT OF ME GREAT TO MAKE NEW ACQUAINTANCES GREAT TO BE HERE... GREAT TO BE ANYWHERE!!
