A tour will be for sure. And it's has to be quite soon, Or they will need "steel wheel chairs" on stage   Are you fucking serious?
Question is only when and if Roniie is on it. Ouch!

I loathe late night talk shows for the "steel wheelchair" comments.

I guess is a way of expressing  the frustration over all this. No Stones tour in the beginning of 2010.
We shall keep happy with the Exile reissue and three new tracks.

Has this been the longest in between tours that The Stones had? hopefully Ronnie will get himself back together for 2011, that gives him a year, it would be great if he stuck with the winners, people in that field who have battled alcoholism-Pete Townshend & Eric Clapton come to mind, instead of all these hanger-ons like that Kat, but then that's his choice, he's the one who does it, she's just making money selling her stories to those newspapers, the higher the price the better, & if this doesn't wise him up, I don't know what will.

Longest gaps until now :

Tattoo You -> Steel Wheels (1982-89) - 7 years, 1 month
Steel Wheels -> Voodoo Lounge (1990-94) - 3 years 11 months
Bridges To Babylon -> Licks (1999-2002) - 3 years 2 months
Some Girls -> Tattoo You (1978-81) - 3 years 2 months

At the minute, its 2 years and just over 4 months.  It'll probably be at least a 3 and a half year gap between Bigger Bang and the next tour. Maybe four.

However, the significant difference between the above 'gaps' and this one is that the band was never totally inactive (apart from 1999-2002) and in every case, at least some of them played on more than a few occasions. Charlie's recent and ongoing boogie woogie shows are the only standard-length gigs any of the band has undertaken since August 2007.

Being inactive for a while when you're in your 40's or even 50's is bad enough. Taking three or four years off in your mid 60s and then picking it up again as if nothing's happened isn't so easy.

That's exactly what I was thinking.....if they wait TOO long, the next tour will feature most members over 70 years of age. 70. Whoa. Hopefully not THAT long, but still.... Oh no! not you again

Last gap was only 1 year and 9 months, between the Licks tour (last show was on November 9, 2003) and A Bigger Bang (first was on 10th August 2005) so this means we're gonna have a tour this year, just patience please

I remember my first Stones show in '82 and thinking at the time - as many did -  that it was absolutely inconceivable that Mick Jagger, just a few days shy of his 39th birthday, could possibly be able to run around performing when into his 40's.

It was if we expected their bones to go all brittle once they hit 40. Sports stars didnt play beyond 35-40, so there was no way a rock n roll singer could sustain any kind of comparable energy level when they reached that age.

70 is the new 40!

You guys gotta admit it though - How cool would it be to watch Mick run from one end of the stage to the other and back again all the while singing "satisfaction YEAH!" at 70??  Grin The man is unbelievable.

Yes, barring any accidents he could probably do it until he is 75 or more...and I suppose we'll find it as normal as we do now. Crazy!

Keith's been wrong about a lot of things, like poisoning himself slowly and ruining his health, but he did say in the 80s that he wanted to see where the Stones could take Rock'n'Roll...musically not very far we've found, but as a "show" it's certainly quite extraordinary.

I've been a fan for nearly 30 years now and I was 10 at the time, so the age difference wasn't that big, you've got to wonder what a 10 year old kid thinks of a singer who's likely older than his grand father. The same thing I thought when I looked at ol' blue eyes? Maybe not because he's a rocker Wink When I took my 9 year old to the McCartney concert in December she didn't seem to be bothered about his age. I'll ask her specifically tonight Wink

Yeah, Mick has always looked after himself, never allowing a inch of fat on him, he exercises like crazy & really keeps in shape, when I saw 'Shine A light" I thought that guy must have a 28 inch waist, & sure enough he does, I can't say the same about Keith, he looks like he lived 3 life times over, a aging vampire.

Yet Mick too will more than likely have a more high quality performance on a smaller stage. Athletes from all kinds of sports will tell you that it takes longer to recover after a contest. Mick more or less runs a marathon on those stages, and sings while he's at it too. The adhd-act amuses me, but I rather see Mick focussing on his voice. He can in smaller venues.

His R&R HOF gig put a smile on my face: he blew U2 away. Worst Gimme Shelter version I ever heared btw.

I have to admit that I enjoyed the Edge's guitar work on that one. I was at the show, and in the live situation all I could focus on was Mick, but watching the performance on HBO I really thought Edge did a nice job.

Glad you liked it, but U2 always gets on my nerves these days. IMO they butchered the song, and Fergie couldn't handle it either. The show proved Bono's limited vocal abilities: Mick and Bruce made him look like a poor backing vocalist. But that's me I guess..
