Pardon the pun, time really isn't on their side anymore. If they hit the road next year, then surely we'd have to hear something in the next few months?

Would anyone care to recount the time-scales between announcements and tour start-dates? How long prior to the start was the Bigger Bang Tour announced?

The economic "downturn" is not conducive.   there are 6 million people laid off in this country including me. Plus I don't know has Mick recovered from the last 3 years of touring?  fucking tiresome if you ask me.  They should downsize imo

The economic climate sucks. No way they'll tour.

Plus they're old.  Really old.

we're not promised a new tour every other year

we've just been spoiled since 89 with the amount of touring they've done. Especially the last 2 tours. They were very extensive and lasted longer than anyone thought they would.

we should be thankful for that

They've toured so much and banked so much money that they simply dont need to do it anymore.

The Stones should just do what Paul McCartney has been doing, playing a few shows here and there. Maybe that's not possible for them.

Theoretically speaking, any rock band should be able to just show up and play. Unfortunately they haven't been a real band since the 1980's.

I actually opened up my first credit card 2 months ago for the sole purpose of spending on the next tour. It's safely tucked away in my drawer for the time being, gathering dust. I swear if something doesn't happen soon I'm taking it and spending it all at the nearest strip joint! 

pfft I wouldn't even look at the stage. Just head straight to the Champagne room!

LJ don't worry! I am 100% sure there's another Stones tour coming... Now who knows when, but it will surely take place.

And the lack of enthusiasm on board is only another good sign for me  I mean, we *always* reach this phase of "why bother" just before great news start flowing, so I think it won't be too long now

and the pre-tour biz, buzz and rumors started about 6 mos before that... the album was still being mixed and finished in june of 05... nothing was really done until 05... so, they could be following the same timeline... tour arrangements late this year, album writting to begin in early 2010. Then announcement, rehearsals, and final mixing of album....this is the norm for most bands today, and considering it's the Stones... These guys have been doing this for so long... dudes are tired!

It will be called "The LJ WILL KICK YOUR ASS TOUR"!  Oh baby!

They didnt tour for three years. They toured from September 2005 - November 2006 (about 110 shows in 14 months), took over 6 months off and then played 30 shows in Europe in just under 3 months.

Not exactly a punishing schedule by anyone's standards, and certainly not when you're commuting by private jet and staying in luxury.

In another 6 weeks, two years will have passed in which the Stones havent played a single concert or spent one day together in a recording studio - their only activity being about four movie premieres.

At this stage in their career, its not exactly sensible to take so much time off between tours. Unfortunately, this band seems totally incapable of doing anything which isnt on a massive scale. Its either a feast or a famine.

They will tour next year though.

Oddly enough, BTB lasted longer than it was supposed to. The 1998 UK tour being postponed for a year necessitated them touring in 1999 - so they added the No security US leg in and added about 10 other European stadium shows in '99 as well.

Voodoo Lounge was supposed to extend into 1996 with more Asian dates, but was cancelled because it was logistically too problematic. There were also plans to extend the Licks tour into 2004 but Charlie didnt want to do it (there were also rumours at the time that Mick was advised by doctors to rest from singing for some time because of the throat problems he had been suffering towards the end of the European leg in 2003)

Not really. Between previous tours, they at least (most of 'em anyway) kept reasonably active with outside projects.

Mick's total inactivity of late simply isnt like him at all. During previous periods of Stones inactivity, he's made solo records and kept busy with various movie production work.

Very odd.

(They didnt really tour for 2 years either, when you think of it. 15 months, then a 7 month break before doing just 30 shows in 3 months in Europe. The 2007 tour was effectively a make-up leg with a few extras caused by the fact that they had to cancel so many European shows in 2006)

My peeps have no comment on this latest rumor. When I get notice to re-up my fanclub membership ($195 this time folks??) then I will think somethings on..........

Well, in summer 2004 they managed to get enough lemmings to cough up $100 for a renewal membership with the carrot of pre-sale access because so many of them wet their collective pants at the part of the offer which clearly promised nothing more than the chance to buy tickets 'should the band announce shows' - even though anyone with any sense knew there were no plans for a tour.

It's technically not false advertising. Just a crafty bit of marketing to take advantage of the desperate and gullible.

In 2005 the renewal sales pitch was presales access, which went on to specifically mention the proposed ticket limits for presale purchases for stadium, arena and theatre shows - so thousands signed up hoping to get tickets for theatre shows, but none were ever announced.  So the members then 'settled' for pre sale access to arena and stadium shows instead, which were often no better that what they could have got through free venue or sponsor presales or even sometimes on public sales.

May as well go even further and promise something else equally pointless this time around!

Ticket drops are nothing new.
"Sold out" can be a promoter and/or artist ruse.

Great seats to many shows are often held back and can be had at the last minute...
