"...and what's with the fucking title of the album? Where'd that come from?"

It's a Jamaican delicacy.

"Coming Down Again should go."

LJ.

It's also known from Turkey to China.
I've had some GH-soup here in Berlin from a turkish restaurant - one can tackle a dish if you don't have a look in the pot  Puke all over me (wait that is BLEED)
........otherwise it tastes quite good.

the norwegian do some similar disgusting dishes  Ouch!

Why all the hate for Mr. D? I agree it's not a Stones classic (they only played it live in '73, right?) but it's not too bad...

GHS isn't a hugely flawed album, but it has so many little flaws that they add up to a lot after a while...

The studio version is a plodder. As one reviewer put it, "It wouldn't frighten a four year old".

Yes, only played live in 1973 - when they injected some much needed balls into it and showed what COULD have been.

The lyrics are a little cheesey, too...as I've said here and on IORR, a good song, just not a good opener...and way better live (the Wembley and Brussels versions are great)...

New lyrics to 'Can You Hear The Music'....nice groove, insipid words.  Indeed, I think the same of "Dancing With Mister D" and "100 Years Ago".  And, yes, add "Criss Cross Mind".  Also, the acoustic "Silver Train" instead of the electic....

Ya think? To me, 'Silver Train' absolutely smokes. A bit of a throwaway lyrically, but a terrific rocker, and that harp playing is wonderful.

I think Mick's OTT campery in the video maybe adversely affects how it's been remembered, though!

I dont think anyone's said they 'hate' it. Just that when you look at what had opened the 4 albums before it - Sympathy, Gimme Shelter, Brown Sugar and Rocks Off - all classic songs that make you sit up and pay attention from the opening couple of bars and which set a great tone for what follows throughout the rest of the album  - it suffers badly by comparison.

I bought it when it first came out. And I'll admit I wasn't terribly excited. But it was the Rolling Stones so wtf....?

^Yeah the live versions of Mr D, Heartbreaker, Angie, 100 Years Ago are all better than the studio ones, IMO...
