Goats Head Soup is one of those releases of the Stones that sounds dated to me.
I like it - but unlike Exile and IORR, it seems particularly early 70s in its sound.
That said, it is still my favorite wake up Stones after a long night because of the slower tunes.
Dancin With Mr. D. - wrong opener.
One of those songs where they seemed bored playing it.
Heartbreaker would have been fine and Starfucker would have set the tone the best.
I like the idea of a strong closer, but Silver Train could have done the trick.
Why Do You Hide Your Love has some of the best slide ever, but I hate the lyrics -- could have been a more inspired tune given Taylor's fine work.
100 Years Ago is a strange song - I like the end and the runaway guitar - kind of 70s funky like Fingerprint File, but it always seems mismatched with that beginning.
Coming Down Again should go.
I agree with quite a bit of this. The "lazy bones" interlude in 100 Years Ago is really the only bit I dislike. Coming Down Again I find is just too long=gets boring. Mr. D is a fine song but not as an opener. The live versions (or Johnny Winter's version) of Silver Train are better.
I absolutely agree it sounds dated...the wah-wah guitar/clavinets sound cool but they sound old, too...
And the cover/album art I've never been crazy about...and what's with the fucking title of the album? Where'd that come from?
