A bit overproduced sometimes, but overall HD is a nice surprise. Now i understand Steve Jordan quotes about Watt's work . Many songs are really good. Lot of riffs and many trademark stones references. Love WWW and live by the sword ( sounds like an Undercover outtake Grin

! )...all the songs in fact , only disapointment for me if the Keith one.
...even Mess it UP IS a nice dance song, Wonderful Charlie on this one!

It s Great to hear a New stones record in 2023.

It would be poetic, couldn't be more perfectly scripted up than the New Testament itself, if the last song they ever recorded (or more accurately, the last song on their last album) was the song that gave them their famous name 60+ year ago, but had never recorded. Full circular 360 type sitch.

I was just at the grocery store and WWW came on Spotify while I was standing in front of the aisle with the vegetarian stuff, trying to decide what to buy lol and I basically started to dance,just couldn't srop myself, and the guy next to me just gave me a really weird look Grin

well it's not my fault that this song is fucking amazing lol...also on my way home it started raining really hard but I was listening to Live By The Sword and Driving Me Too Hard and just had the biggest smile on my face...god I fucking love this band <3

The Stones have had UK number 1 albums in six different decades :

1960's - The Rolling Stones, The Rolling Stones No.2, Aftermath, Let It Bleed

1970's - Get Yer Ya Yas Out!, Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main St, Goats Head Soup

1980's - Emotional Rescue

1990's - Voodoo Lounge

2010's - Exile On Main St (deluxe), Blue & Lonesome

2020's - Goats Head Soup 2020 and (hopefully), Hackney Diamonds (?)

If '40 Licks' had sold something like 12 more copies in its first week, it would have been a chart topper and the Stones would be looking at no.1 UK album in seven decades. Unfortunately EMI, in their infinite wisdom, decided to release it at the same time as Elvis' TV advertised '30 #1 Hits' album.

If this one tops the charts, it'll take the Stones into joint second in the all time list

16 - The Beatles
14 - The Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams
13 - Elvis Presley
12 - Madonna, Bruce Springsteen
11 - David Bowie, U2
10 - Abba, Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Eminem, Queen, Taylor Swift

However, when you only include number 1 studio albums, the Stones will go to 13. The next highest is 11 (The Beatles, Springsteen, Robbie Williams).

The album will sell very well and it will stream adequately (<< it already is doing both). Sure .. it isn't going to do Taylor Swift or Drake numbers etc. .. BUT it will be a big hit and will be easily the biggest selling album world-wide this week .. >> and for a Rock and Roll band or a Rock oriented album in 2023 that is something .. ESPECIALLY since it is coming from by far and away the oldest act going who started back in the early to middle of the 1960's - !

Who said The Stones could not produce a hit album in todays age (I think 'Blue & Lonesome' proved that theory incorrect) .. or that there were no hit albums anymore?

The Stones prove us (and the world) wrong again.

Chiming in for a quick sec...

I'll stand up and say that all this negativity about "Mess It Up" is
kinda funny. The comments about the cringey, teeth clenching "disco chorus"....is hilarious.
It's as if no one recalls Miss You...Emotional Rescue....Too Much Blood and a few others.
Sure it has the "four-on-the-floor" beat....but that just makes for a good radio single.

I got home yesterday to find my own Glimmer Twins and a few friends doing homework and whatever.
They had music playing in the background...One of my daughters must have heard me playing MIU and put it on her playlist.
Well...the girls kinda went wild...there was a loud "OMG" and the song started over and played LOUD...
they were all digging it and the non-daughters had never heard it before.

Something about the song seems to have hit them hard...I recall that happening when I was their age...even now, really.
It seems that whatever plan there was for this song...it seems to be working. It is a good single.

I look fwd to any remixes that may result (I love that sort of thing).

DO IT FOR THRE KIDS!

'Fess It Up' must be one of a phew versions of 'Really Wanna Tell Justin Tru' banged out over the last year (or more) and certainly stands as a hearty Jag-jig.
I well hope that Hackney is followed úp sooner. rather than later; certainly before BW puts the finishing crutches to 'Bigger Bill In The Clem (The Gem) Years' or whatever it's called.

There sure seem to be a lot of songs on this record about the singer getting away from a woman who's dragging him down. I suppose that's better thematics than Morning Joe Cues, and thank God. Maybe this is where all the love songs came to die.

I agree that Tell Me Straight should have been lengthened like Thru and Thru. They could have added a closing instrumental jam just where this edit ends. They've never had confidence in their instrumentals, though everybody who hears their studio outtakes falls in love with them.

This is one new record where if they played the whole thing on tour, sacrificing a few hits, no audience would feel cheated.* For once, the record's too short.
