probably a bit of both.

Every tour has been a rehash/rebrand of the same thing since 2012 but this year they'll (presumably) also have a new release to 'promote'. The reality is that this is the Stones' equivalent of Dylan's 'Never Ending Tour'.

Maybe they'll name the tour after their album  but its not going to be like 30-40 years ago when you could reasonably expect about a quarter of the show to consist of newly recorded material.  Most of the people buying tickets will be disinterested in those songs and the band know it.

I recall Bigger Bang Tour with the new songs being whittled down as the tour moved fwd...and the slow demise of singles such as Back Of My Hand, Rough Justice, and later tours the Blues & Lonesome songs and others never seeing the light of the stage again...typical...Bring back Emotional Rescue, IMO...and more CYHMK...here's to a good 2023 for the band.

Finally! Bjornulf Vik confirmed details, and as you all know he is a real reliable source

https://iorr.org/news.htm

Feb 10: The Rolling Stones North America tour to start in June
The Rolling Stones will be touring North America this summer, with an expected tour start early June. The tour will last through the summer, both arena and stadium shows are rumoured. An annoncement of the tour is expected later this month. For updates see the IORR thread Stones tour plans 2023, and the IORR list of The North America Tour 2023.

He's going "all in". Okay. I call.

I am really looking forward to this tour. It is bringing back
memories from the shows in 1997 and 2005, when they had
many new songs for us. Three weeks into the 2005 tour, we
got a great long soundcheck, new songs, and more new songs
appeared on the stage that summer.

The first month of the tour this summer will bring many new songs,
I hope. How lucky we are. It may be a long tour, it may be a
mixed tour, and it will for sure be a tour to remember as
long as we live.

Bjornulf

So, to be clear, I can still see the album maybe happening later
this year. But unrelated to any tour. In fact, I would say instead
of a tour is why we might get it.

I'm so so excited about the tour news...I mean we knew for months now that it would be coming but sweeing this news on IORR makes it all finally get real, cannot wait for the official announcement!! I've never been outside of Europe before and never on such a long plane ride but I'm so looking forward to flying over to the US to catch 2 shows and see my American friends again whom I met during last year's tour Smiley

Also what is it with the June-September thing? I'm kinda having a hard time believing they'd play only shows in North America for 4 months straight when they have played there in 2019 and 2021, the market probably would be saturated...could it be that maybe they might start off in NA but then extend it to South America or so? Or maybe play some shows in June/July there and then some more in Europe in September?

No chance of them going straight to another region just after the North American leg. The time to play South America is in their summer (ie Jan/Feb).  Options for outdoor shows in Europe are pretty limited after August (although they managed it in 2017)

They only play two shows a week. There'll also probably be a mid tour break of a week or so.

I wouldnt assume its early June to late September (ie almost 4 months). Could just as easily be mid/late June to mid September

The market isn't saturated if you're only playing 15-20 shows in the same region every two years and aren't playing the same cities each time.

The four shows rumoured so far are

Edmonton 18th June - haven't played there since 1997. No shows at all in Canada since a festival date in Burls Creek, Ontario in 2019. None in an actual city since 2013.
Chicago 30th June - haven't played there since 2019
Foxboro 8th July - haven't played a public show there since 2019.
Cleveland July 20th - haven't played there since  2002. They were supposed to play Cleveland in 2020 but the tour got cancelled due to the pandemic and they were unable to reschedule this gig. No shows at all in Ohio since Columbus in 2015.

Idk it just seemed a bit strange to me, cause well-informed people said the tour would start in the beginning of June, so I assumed if they stuck with their usual pattern, the tour would be in June and July like last year, but seeing that it was mentioned now it would run all the way through September I just was musing that maybe they'd do things differently this time (since they're very likely bringing the new record on the road) and maybe play early June-mid July (aka about 10 shows) in North America, then take a 4 week break and go on to play another 10 shows or so in South America or Europe or even Australia/NZ idk...but we'll only see what's actually gonna happen once they're gonna publically announce the dates...but even if it's "just" NA, it sure won't only be 15 shows this time around if the tour is gonna run for longer than the usual 2 months they have been doing the past years

It says 'all through the summer' though. No mention of September, let alone the end of September.  Early June to end of August would be maybe 12-13 weeks, so even with a week off thats maybe 20 shows max. The US is their biggest market and with a new record to push, they're not going to go there for just ten shows.

Outdoor shows in the southern hemisphere will always be in the summer in that part of the world. If the Stones are going to play concerts in the first 2-3 months of the year, it'll be in one or both of those markets.

I was just going by what people on IORR have been writing recently and there was beginning of June named and until September, even BV wrote that he has heard there would be shows in September, but you're right @Gazza maybe it's beginning of June til beginning of September with maybe 2 weeks off this time and that would be about 12 weeks then

Also thanks for the info about previous shows in South America, that's interesting @Boogie Chile in Wonderland...well technically Mexico belongs to North America and a while back people said that Mick was in Mexico City apparently to talk about concerts there so I wouldn't be too surprised if there was one or two shows in Mexico even if they previously haven't been played there in northern hemisphere summer

BV today:

There will be a new album out in June,
and I am sure they will tour behind that album name

They have reserved venues in North America from
early June to early September this year.

If youre wondering why none of the media are running with
BV's scoop yet, here's why: when the media checks with the
local venue, they are being told "the contract isnt signed yet"

The Stones are holding options on various venues, apparently
expiring at the end of this month. That's the meat of this
story.

How BV knows for sure that those options will be exercised
is anyone's guess. Personally I don't think he can KNOW that.
I do think he can BELIEVE that because he has been told that
by more than one source he regards as reliable.

so I remain skeptical (about the tour, not the album).

Nonetheless, because so many of y'all are psyched up now,
I hope BV's right.
