Mine is 'Rolled Gold'.

...

I bought the 28-song double album when I was around 16 years old (1979) and quickly wore my copy out!  A near perfect selection of Decca era material (and the 40-song CD version is even better).

More Hot Rocks (Big Hits and Fazed Cookies), original 2-LP, a childhood eye-opener at Xmas. 1972.

Through the Past Darkly.

One of 3 Stones albums I taped off a mate that got me properly into the band in the early 80s.

Excellent choices!

The first RS album I knew was the UK version of 'Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass)', the only Stones album my parents owned. I must've heard that quite a lot from aged 3 onwards. It wasn't until years later that I realised the guy at the front of the cover pic wasn't actually the group leader!

I don't think there has ever been a better hits package from any band than Hot Rocks. The selection of songs and order is superior to any. Solid shout with Rolled Gold though.

High Tide And Green Grass. Got it for a dollar when I was like 8 years old.

The only downside to 36 Licks is the 3 (or 4) inferior tracks that sound more like outtakes that shouldn't have been on any album.

First Stones record I ever bought. Christmas 1977. TV advertised double LP on Arcade Records, who were a UK based label who somehow managed to get the rights to the band's ABKCO era catalogue and released this double LP, which sold massively helped by heavy TV promotion. The track listing is relatively similar to 'Rolled Gold'

I was so eager to listen to it that I couldnt wait until Christmas Day, so one night a couple of weeks before the holidays I sneaked into my parents' bedroom wardrobe when they were out for the evening and found where it was hidden, brought it downstairs and blasted it for a couple of hours.  I was hooked.
Arcade were in competition with K-Tel, who released their own 'Story of the Stones' compilation in the early 80's.

Very cool story, one of millions that prove the Stones are life, the rest is just details.
A K-Tel reference, awesome.

As it was the only place where you get those two outstanding studio tracks and a fine live'78 version of 'Whip', absolutely

On the down side, I think some of the songs are edited (was this the first album where this happened?) but its worth the price alone for 'Everything is Turning to Gold' and 'If I Was a Dancer', which are two of the funkiest things they've ever done and huge favourites of mine.

'Out Of Time' was edited (from 5:37 to 3:41) for 'Flowers', but I can't think of an earlier example on a compilation. 'Tell Me (You're Coming Back)' was also edited (from 4:05 to 2:47) for US single release.

I’d rather like rarities ……. The liner notes stunk, but to finally get through the lonely nights on cd was great and Let it rock
