Hi
A friend of mine sent me this El Mocambo thread....I am new to the group...
I am the "Ottawa guy" mentioned in one of the postings...who had the original Dirty Work listening tape back in 1985 before tthe LP was released....it was a 2nd generation copy of Ronnie's listening tape ....the quality is unbelieveable.......I got the tape from a sound engineer I met during the 1984 Olympic Games ..........he contacted me in the spring of 85 (still have the post card he mailed telling me about the Dirty Work mixes..)
Yes I also attended the March 5, 1977 El Mocambo show......I was in Montreal on business and was called at 3pm by my girl friend (now wife) to say we won the CHUM FM contest....I flew out of Montreal on Canadian Airlines flight 5.05pm and arrived at TO airport...rushed by taxi to CHUM FM on Yonge St. in time to get on one of the buses for the contest winnners...
The show was incredible ...I wrote an article for IORR back in 1982'ish detailing my experience and the set list for that night.
Keith signed an autograph for me....I was standing beside the stage immediately beside the sound board....
Following the show we hung around in case any of the Stones came back out.........after about 15 minutes Ian Stuard came out and started packing up some of the equipment....
I walked up to him and asked him for an autograph......he looked at me and said why do you want my autograph?.....and I replied...
"because I know who you are and what you really mean to this band..." .....he broke out in a big smile......it was a great 'Stones' moment for me...
I played for 15 years in a Stones band 1991-2006.....I re-joined with James Douglas (former singer with my band Torn and Frayed) in 2007 and we formed a band called the Powergoats ...our first CD was very Stones influenced ....
We are finishing off our 2nd CD now....if anyone is interested check out
