Hey everybody,

Today, I got solo Brian Wilson self-titled cd issued in 1988. I was expecting a little bit of the Beach Boys' genius, but instead I found it to be an over-produced replica of the trademark BB sound. I must admit that I am not a general BB fan, but thought that BW's solo work would be innovative. I was disappointed.

I highly recommend SMiLE.

It took me a while to get it, but once I did, I can say I like it better than Sgt. Peppers.

Seek out the Purple Chick or Fast Eddie version, as they use authentic Beach Boys segments (not the 2005 Brian Wilson version).

As I recall, the 1988 release was what eventually put Brian's therapist (Landy?) jailed, because of a doctor/client issue.

Here is the Purple Chick version, which uses some 1980's remastered versions of the 1966 Beach Boys recordings:

Landy--thanks for that information, it makes the cd more interesting. I got it for less than 2 bucks from a thrift shop. But I got TOTALLY bamboozled on Jamming with Edward, which actually contained a whole other cd completely unrelated to the Stones.

Brian's gushing dedications on the sleevenotes show how much control Landy had over him at that point.

He ripped him off greatly and basically controlled and manipulated his every move - even to the point where he pretty much 'wrote' Brian's autobiography, which all but estranged him from his family (his daughters dismissed the whole book as 'total lies') to Landy's own advantage.

Dr. Landy's hold on Brian was so complete that he even became his manager.
He and his girlfriend were given songwriting credits on BW's solo debut.

Those credits were removed after Brian's family sucessfully wrestled him free from Landy's all encompassing - and professionally unethical - control.

FG's got herself a collector's item...
