they're both sort of half-correct. The Stones' debut album was indeed released on that date - but it was the UK debut 'The Rolling Stones'. Certainly a moment thats worthy of being noted. You rock!

'England's Newest Hitmakers' - the US debut, with some different tracks from the UK album - wasn't released until 30 May 1964. (rs.com got that bit right)

45 years is sellin' 'em short, though if we're just counting their history as a chart act in the US. First show was 12 July 1962, and first record was June 1963. Some people on here saw them in 1963!

47 years - an even more amazing feat! Let's go get drunk

I must disagree with you, my good friend.
We are SPOILED rotten fans, in my opinion.
We want more (naturally) but they could EASILY have packed it up a long long time ago.

When (God willing) they Tour again, I know the tingle that I get when the Band hits the stage will be AS good IF NOT BETTER than it was in '75, '78, '81, ;89, '94, '97 '99, '03, '05 and '06!!!!

All acts have periods of inactivity. You could just as easily put an asterisk beside the 47 years and exclude summer '76-summer '77, 1984, 1986-88, 1991 - summer 1993, autumn 1995-autumn 1996, summer 1999 - spring '02, etc.

I agree that they've ground to a halt for too long (something that's not a good idea at this stage in their career when time isnt on their side) and are coasting creatively, but overall I think we hit the jackpot when we picked THIS particular band to follow. We've pretty much got a lifetime out of it so far.

Bring on the next chapter.
