Lennon got murdered, it was the most shocking incident in Rock 'N' Roll for me that ever happened, there's been other people that got shot (Sam Cooke, for one) but Lennon was part of my generation, & the way he got assassinated was unbelievable.

I remember getting home that night around 11:00pm and turning on the TV, and there it was on the news, happening live. I didn't have a phone at the time so I couldn't even call anyone. For days afterward it seemed like everyone was moving in slow motion. It was just so unimaginable. A few days later (I think it was on a Sunday) I drove up there with a few friends and joined in the memorial cortege around Central Park.

I had a friend who lived across the street from the Dakota so I'd spent some time in the neighborhood in the late '70s. One day I actually saw Lennon walking down the street but I didn't want to bother him. I kind of wish I had now - not for a picture or autograph, but just to tell him how much he meant to me and my generation.

I was 13, and just getting into rock and roll. It was Queen that I was mad on at the time. Getting ready for school, my mum shouted to me from the kitchen, "John Lennon's been shot."

I didn't know he was dead until I got to school.

I suppose I figured that day that folks is bad. Folks'll do just about anything.

I just finished listening to a 10CD set of Phillip Norman's, John Lennon---The Life, his Lennon biography...its a great listen/read if you are a Lennon fan!
I waited on John and Julian and May Pang at Disneyworld in 1974 when I was a room service waiter at the Polynesian Village during his "Lost Weekend" period.

Dec. 8, 1980 I had gone to bed {about 11:00 pm}. My husband stayed up to watch Monday Night Football. He came to bed about 11:30 and I woke up. I can still remember exactly what he said...."John Lennon was shot. He was assassinated." And then he promptly turned over and went to sleep. Well, I was awake for the rest of the night.....horrific night. A friend picked me up for work the next day and I was so sad and depressed and sleep deprived. We didn't talk the entire trip to work.....and then, on Sunday, at 2:00 pm EST, all the radio stations observed 10 minutes of a musical tribute to John. If you were in your car, you were supposed to turn on your lights. I remember the station I was listening to played a classical piece by the French composer Gabriel Faure. That song just burned into my brain. And that was the first time, since John had been shot, that I allowed myself to cry...
