fantastic record indeed.  i bought this record from a yard sale 2 summers ago [for 1 dollar] and when i got home to admire it i noticed it had the original  lyric sheet in it.  how many of you here can say you have that?

Why duck? It was an excellent record. Producer Glenn Ballard did a fantastic writing job with her.

While I certainly cannot relate to any of the lyrics on the album (being that I'm a man), I do appreciate the fact that all the tunes, formulatic as they were, were all "Grade A" pop tunes and the album was completely solid in that from start to finish.

I have it with the lyric sheet on the original Warner Bros. pressing.  You have to hunt those down (I got a rare unscratched one for only $3.00, but spent more on bad editions) because every pressing of Aqualung that's not on Warners sucks.  The Chrysalis pressings sound like they were made from high-gen sources, and get worse with each pressing.  The CD versions up to a few years ago were all high-gen sources, and all rotten product not improved since the late 80s.  So it's an original or an audiophile version for Aqualung in any medium, and I probably spent $25 learning that.

Good post.  And, really, the MOFI version isn't worth it, either.  Fake sounding and too isolated in that MOFI way.  The Reprise (warner) version is definitely the way to go.  White label if you can get it.  Had it, sold it, had it, and sold it again . . . it's not like they didn't make a million of them . . .

I got my Aqualung (finally) for $3.00 at Jerry's in Pittsburgh, but I had to hunt and squint until I found an unscratched one.  When I popped a Reprise issue on the BSR turntable and cheap headphones, I could tell in two seconds that it was the only worthwhile pressing.

There was supposed to have been a CD re-release with improved sound scheduled, but I lost track of whether it came out.

The Reprise pressing is trebly but has excellent track separation that got flattened out after it went to Chrysalis.  I've bought a lot of orange-tan and pink-green label Reprise, and gold or green label Warners (Kinks, Joni, Neil, Dead, Van), and those are always worth having.

Indeed.  It's a shame how many of those record pressings go to hell from about 1973 until the death of vinyl.  It's like somebody pressed the noise reduction button on the entire industry - everything tends to get muddy and fuzzy.  It's a bitch how flat the pure brown Reprises gets on 60s recordings.  I've had to ditch numerous clean looking brown labels for early two and three tones.  Give me my original mono Village Green Preservation Society over a crappy 70s reish (or a 180 gram prestige job) any day of the week.

All subjective, of course...and you guys have mentioned some great albums. Many Stones, Beatles, Dylan, Who albums fit this category. I agree with Pet Sounds as well. And, I will add {for me, anyway}, "After The Goldrush". And there are Petty and Townshend albums with no "bad" tracks, as far as I'm concerned. And Stephen Stills. For me, anyway. Wink
