Am I right in saying that the last 15 shows have had 15 different openers?

Not quite.

After the 'So Young And In Love' opener in Hartford, 'Night' and 'No Surrender' alternated - except for
'The Ties That Bind' in Buffalo.

Starting with the Cincy show on 3/22, openers other than ^ have been:
'Darlington County'
'Trapped'
'Atlantic City'
'Spirit In The Night'
'Out In The Street'
'Light Of Day'
'Thunder Road'
'Tenth Avenue Freeze Out'
'Cadillac Ranch'
'Backstreets'
'Reason To Believe'

Still pretty good though.
And still plenty more shows to go...  Smiley

At this point I wouldn't be surprised to see Badlands turn around a nd be the opener. Or Tenth Ave Freezeout. Again,I think it's a great concept to change the opener every night, then go into Radio Nowhere. Works pretty good imo.

I was talking with folks at work the other night who are still fans despite "recent events" & they said that Giants Stadium is a horror show for Brucie. I went to 2 Stones shows there & the 1st was fine but the second was horrid as far as getting to the venue.

With the Xanadu and football stadium construction going on it promises to be a parking nightmare.
And the drunken a-hole factor will also rise exponentially...

Having said that, I'll still prolly make the trek up the Turnpike for at least one of them.

Bruce has played many a memorable show there, and he'll no doubt be adding to that legacy this summer.

That takes the number of songs played to 101. Hope Charlotte had a great time.

Songs that were on the handwritten setlist but not played :

1) streets of fire
2) independence day
3) stand on it  (not played on this tour so far)
4) this hard land

When I heard the news that E Street Band keyboardist Danny Federici had died on Thursday at age 58, it took quite a few minutes for the reality to sink in.
When it did, there was only one thing to do: Call the biggest Springsteen fan that I know, my old pal and former colleague Nancy Pate. Here at the newspaper, Nancy and I were like family, which is the same context in which I have always viewed the E Street Band.
Even more than the music, the band represents the noble idea of sticking together, through thick and thin, forever. That's a pretty lofty notion to take in, especially if you've run into a bad relationship, bad marriage, single-parenthood, health issues or any of the myriad struggles that make life so challenging.
So, anyway, Nancy picked up the phone and we started reminiscing about the band's history and then our own. She and I have been to a few Springsteen shows together and through more than a few adventures at work. Without her presence, I never would've had a chance to do what I love.
After the shock wore off, she got feisty:
"This pisses me off," she is telling me, "because these guys are the good guys. Hey, tramps like us..."
The E Street Band didn't do drugs, didn't carouse irresponsibly. They don't fit into the new tabloid mentality. Federici's three-year battle with melanoma had been kept so low-key that attentive fans such as Nancy and I weren't aware of it.
He had joined the band in 1969, according to the biographical information in the forward to a new Springsteen volume, For You: Original Stories and Photographs by Bruce Springsteen's Legendary Fans.
Federici played with the Boss in the seaside juke joints with Child and Steel Mill. "In Danny's case," the Chicago Tribune's Louis Carlozo writes. "greatness is understood, measured in the sublime flicker of his organ-playing hands."
After 40 years in the band, Federici's hands are still, but I'm optimistic that, like all families, the E Street Band will find a way to persevere. It gives hope to the rest of us.

Yeah, 'Stand On It' was listed as the show closer.
Now you're talkin', sir!

Only played once on The Rising tour.
I'd love to see it get dusted off more often...

Those Europe shows are gonna be good, Gaz.

Stand on it.  I remember it when it came out as a B side.  From BUSA.  Was it the B side to "Glory Days"?

Yup.

Saw 'em bust it out for the first time to close one of the Giants Stadium shows in '85 - it roared!

One good thing about BITUSA being so
HUGE
was that it yielded seven singles, each with an unreleased B side:
Dancing In The Dark / Pink Cadillac
Cover Me / Jersey Girl (live)
Born In The USA / Shut Out The Light
I’m On Fire / Johnny Bye Bye
Glory Days / Stand On It
I’m Goin’ Down / Janey Don’t You Lose Heart
My Hometown / Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town (live)

If Gazza's math is right, indeed.
Quite a 1-2 punch.

Damn, Bruce needs to start filling in them gaps on the summer leg muy pronto.

From dark moment, a fitting celebration
MARK KEMP The Charlotte Observer
In their fourth performance since the April 17 cancer death of longtime keyboardist Danny Federici, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band turned their mourning of a lost musical brother into a celebration of a familial bond that's lasted more than a quarter of a century.
Springsteen and company began their Charlotte show Sunday night in darkness as a photo montage of Federici through the years appeared on video screens across Time Warner Cable Arena. In the background, Springsteen's gruff voice sang the words to his 1995 song "Blood Brothers" -- "I'll keep moving through the dark with you in my heart, my blood brother" -- as the packed arena stood in silence.

It was an emotional tribute that colored the entire evening.

But this was no maudlin occasion. Springsteen and the band played as passionately and as triumphantly as ever, roaring through classic deep cuts such as "Thunder Road" and "She's the One," big hits like "Dancing in the Dark," workingman's anthems like "The Promised Land" and lots of songs about soldiers, from the Vietnam War vet of 1973's "Lost in the Flood" to the Iraq War vet of 2007's "Devil's Arcade."

Interestingly, much of the material came from two of Springsteen's 15 studio albums -- his third album, 1975's "Born to Run," and his most recent, "Magic."

The crowd -- mostly people in their 30s, 40s and 50s, some with kids in tow -- ate it all up, dancing and singing along to the words of nearly every song, even the more obscure ones. Springsteen and the E Streeters played intensely for two hours and then returned for a five-song encore that lasted another half-hour or so.

The highlights of the show, though, came in the interactions, both subtle and showy, among Springsteen, his bandmates and their fans. When Springsteen showed the audience a scrawled sign he'd plucked from the hands of a kid that said "I like U Better than Hanna Montana," his gratitude was written across his face.

104 now with the addition of 'Marys Place' later in last night's show. Pretty outrageous opening pair of songs. I'm sure it caught a few people out!

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) – Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band rocked a large and appreciative crowd Monday night at the Coliseum complex. This is Springsteen's first appearance in the Piedmont in a few years. Here are excerpts from the first few songs of the concert, including a tribute to Danny Federici, the E Street Band's organist and keyboard player

Says on the notes made by the uploader. Shrine Auditorium, LA 16.11.90

The first of two 90-minute solo shows over successive nights for the Christic Institute. Three artists on the bill - Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne and Bruce. All 3 sang together at the end of Bruce's sets.

Bruce premiered five at the time unreleased songs over the 2 shows - 57 Channels, The Wish, When The Lights Go Out, Soul Driver and Real World (on piano!)

You should be able to find both shows easily enough on the torrent sites, such as Jungleland. Worth getting - two absolutely superb concerts. Both circulate as audience videos as well.

Edit

Audience recordings here (none of them active at present though):

Soundboard of 2nd show (active at present) :

Charlottesville tonight - poster at btx reports 'I Wanna Be With You' and 'Streets Of Fire' were soundchecked.

And in other ESB news, the 5/7 Count Basie Theatre benefit show has been confirmed as full band, not Bruce solo.

Suddenly I'm hoping for a ticket drop.
And a drop in ticket price...  Wink
