STATS

(Last update: January 8, 2025)

This is a visual summary of the Rolling Stones gigography.

Since July 12, 1962, the stones have played 2,283 shows, all in 44 years on the road in a total of 50 different countries (the analysis shows 47 as the four countries of the United Kingdom, are considered as one here). The figures consider both, tour and non-tour shows.

Keith Richards is the only one who has been in all shows!

This is only for live shows in front of audiences, so live TV or live radio programmes are not included, but you can find them here for TV shows and here for radio shows.

(1) In the case of Charlie, the three shows as a guest are deputised as some sources say he was already hired as a member for the January 12, 1963, show at the Ealing Jazz Club, but he had some commitments, so Carlo Little played three shows replacing Charlie, the same number of shows played by Charlie before the constant line-up from January 23 onwards.

Again, for Charlie, the tribute show for Stu on February 23, 1986 at the 100 Club in London, was started without Charlie, he arrived late as he was stuck in traffic. So, Simon Kirke (Free, Bad Company) played the first seven songs and Charlie only played four. However, we counted that one as “one show” to avoid using fractions (36.36% of the show)

(2) For Bill as a guest we have 5 in 1962, 4 in 1963 (those before January 23 – the well-known constant line-up) and 2 in 2012

(3) For Ronnie the whole 1975 Tour of the Americas was played as a guest.

(4) Stu's guest appearances during the 72, 75, 76, 79 shows are not included.

(5) Mick Taylor as a guest: 1 in 1981, 5 in 2012, 22 in 2013 and 29 in 2014.

Additional note: For the fourth show of the Stones, at the Ealing Club on September 8, 1962, Paul Jones was the singer instead of Mick, so Keith Richards is the only member of the Rolling Stones who has played absolutely all of their shows!

Part 3: Shows by line-up.

The classic line-up of Brian, Mick, Keith, Charlie, and Bill is and will be the one with more shows played.

Part 4: Pre-classic era (before the constant classic line-up).

The image is the number of shows played by each member before the classic line-up started on January 23, 1963, at the Red Lion Pub (now The Winning Post) in Sutton, London.

Part 5: Shows per country.

Stats by country in order of appearance

(*) For these countries we took the city of the show and put the current country (2025), for example in 1976 we had two shows in Zagreb, Yugoslavia, but now Zagreb is in Croatia, same for Czechoslovakia and Germany. For the UK we have their four countries as one kingdom.

Variety

Now let’s talk about variety, the following images shows the different years each country has received the Rolling Stones live at home.

Part 7: Stats by population density.

The following two images are based on population density, for the population figures are the most recent, and since 1962 the increase is significant, so it’s just to have an idea and for fun!

Part 8: Losing it!

And this shows the first year having the stones live at each country, the year losing the stones virginity.
