Make a Coffee with a Bialetti Moka Pot

“When you are in Italy, eat like an Italian!” This is a famous quote reminding us of how interesting Italian cuisine is, as well as the eating and drinking customs. In addition, you will discover how proud Italian people are of their coffee. Even here there are nine well-known types of Italian coffee drinks including espresso, caffè corretto, cappuccino, macchiatio, marocchino, caffè latte, shakerato, caffè al ginseng, and caffè d’Orzo.

How hot is the Bialetti Moka pot?

Do you have any idea how popular the Bialetti Moka is? The Bialetti Moka Express, which is found in 9 out of 10 Italian homes, in the Museum of Modern Art, and even in the Guinness Book of Records, has become one of the top reviewed things from Italy. Many people around the world love this coffee maker, either for the quality brew or because it allows them to join an Italian coffee making custom, which has stood the test of time.

How to make great coffee with your Bialetti Moka Pot.

Preheat the water.

The ideal water temperature is in the medium heat. Stop your kettle just before the water boils or turn your electric stovetop to medium heat. Hot water helps the extraction take place more quickly and prevents the pot from overheating, which can scald the coffee grounds.

Grind your coffee.

Experimentation is key here, and you can try different settings until you find your favorite grind. The suggestion here is the grind should be slightly coarser than espresso, but more elegant than for a French press. Your coffee will become over-extracted and bitter if the grind is too fine.

If you are using ready-ground coffee, the finest consistency coffee for stovetop coffee making is the most suitable.

Pour the hot water into the bottom pot of your Moka.

Remember to fill your bottom pot to the safety level, regardless of the number of cups you want to make. Warming your cup before filling it with coffee really makes a better tasting coffee.

Fill the basket with a mound of coffee.

No need to tamp it into the base of the basket, it should be loosely packed. If you try to press your ground coffee, it will lead to an over-extracted, bitter brew.

Put the basket, filled and flattened, into the lower pot.

Filling the basket with coffee before you put it into the lower pot could prevent coffee grounds from littering the thread. Then, you screw the top on using an oven glove or a cloth, as the base will be hot.

Place it on the stove or your cooker.

The lid should be opened throughout the coffee making process to make sure that the chamber is not overheated. Use the medium level of heating to create a gradual, controlled extraction.

Wait for the first splutter of coffee.

If you see that the coffee trickles out like a thick, golden-brown syrup, you have followed the above steps correctly. The extraction will make it become lighter and thinner, and then you stop it when the espresso runs pale.

Use a cold, clean cloth to cool the base down right after using it in order to prevent the coffee from tasting burnt. If you run the extraction longer, your coffee will become bitter. Remember when using the Moka pot that you will not wait for all the water to run through the pot, it is recommended to finish with a small amount of rich and quality coffee.
