Well, my first post here will be about the release date as we're going to celebrate its 50th

The first announced release date was May 7, here a clipping I scanned some days ago from my Rolling Stone magazine (Issue 107, April 27, 1972)



Then it was moved to May 12... but guess what, it was moved to May 26 to have a simultaneous release date worldwide

Now let me tell you that I will be on the air on a local radio station (and web radio too) doing a special to celebrate its birthday on May 20 (a date in the middle) but I only can play 6 songs and one sample

If you were in charge of this, which six songs and sample would you choose? LOL hard question, not your favorites but the six songs to show the world how great this masterpiece is

*Modus: It seems useful to treat Exile as (among other things) a celebration of Americana from the 78-RPM era to the year of release, hence some of my choices.  In this vein, Rip This Joint is more important than Rocks Off.  I didn't want to include two covers, though (Hip Shake).

See the impeccably reasoned Modus I added.  Plundered My Soul?...is it best to expose the newbies to commercial revisionism?  Though if we're talking history, maybe there's an argument for including revisionism.  Maybe PMS as the sample, and Rip This Joint replacing Rocks Off.

Considering the album title, is there a sense throughout that Jagger would have preferred self-Exile in the US to the south of France?  Maybe that comes out in some songs.

It's a record of parts: themes of band history, broken romance, and longing for America.

LOL I took pictures of the article, scanning is a pain in the ass as you need to scan 4 sections per page and then edit them, so I took pictures with my cel but you saved me the time of edition and uplloading, before I searched the web with the article title and "Lenny Kaye" and couldn't find it
