Ladies and gentlemen, congratulate me. I am about to become famous.
Several years ago, my current tribute band was adding other tunes to spice up our repertoire, and our bass player suggested "Taxman" because he liked the bass line. To help the band out, I recorded a quick tutorial on the vocals for the song, as I had played it in the old Beatle tribute years back and was quite familiar with it. Not my best effort, mind you: it took me about 20 minutes to record the thing. It did the trick, though.
About a month ago, I was contacted via email by a Brazilian filmmaker who was making a documentary on the Beatles. This filmmaker, one of the top indie filmmakers in all South America, saw my video and requested permission to use it in his upcoming effort, a docudrama on the Beatles' rise to fame called "More Popular Than Jesus". Naturally, I was humbled and gave immediate permission. Well, the film has come out of post production and will be making its debut at Sundance this year. It is visually stunning; the actors' pain and emotional turmoil at the death of Brian Epstein are palpable and moving. Clearly this will win many awards, and I was more than happy to be a part of it.
As music lovers, I am sure you all will be moved at this one.
