By Adam Stites Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports Alvin Kamara didn’t take long to endear himself in New Orleans during a season with the Saints that will likely end with him named Offensive Rookie of the Year. But the running back is also a fan favorite because he has embraced what it means to live in the Bayou.
In a profile in Sports Illustrated it was revealed that Kamara lives right in the heart of New Orleans and walks to and from the Superdome on game days. Via Sports Illustrated:
“While most of his Saints teammates live near the team facility in Metarie or Kenner, Kamara decided to move downtown, into a ground-floor apartment, his floor-to-very-high-ceiling windows facing directly out to the street and the people on them. He walks home from games, from the Superdome to his front door, amid the revelry and the hordes of adoring fans; down Canal Street to high-end fashion stores to browse; around the block to get breakfast at the Ruby Slipper or to pick up groceries.”
Kamara, 22, is a Georgia native who went to Tennessee before he was drafted by the Saints in the third round in April. In less than a year in New Orleans, Kamara has made an effort to live their lifestyle. He tried oysters and beignets for the first time and told SI that he plans to visit every restaurant in the city.
If it wasn’t already easy to root for Kamara, he talked about how he has turned down endorsements and free offers because he won’t endorse a product he doesn’t use. One fan even offered him a yacht.
“Even if I wanted a boat,” Kamara says, “what the f--- am I going to do with a boat right now?”
He had no desire to make an outlandish purchase after he was drafted, because there was nothing he wanted. “I got my signing bonus and I put that s--- in the bank and I went and got some motherf---ing wings,” he says. That is Kamara.
Kamara finished the 2017 regular season with 1,554 yards from scrimmage with 14 total touchdowns, contributing as a running back, receiver, and returner. He looks like the next star for the Saints and he’s already embraced every aspect of what it means to live in New Orleans. https://www.sbnation.com/2018/1/5/16854554/alvin-kamara-sports-illustrated-new-o... very dangerous.
