I've started many concert threads during my 12 years on RO, but never one that means as much to me as this!!!!
Are you fucking serious? What the fuck? really? Ouch!

Going to the Rolling Stones concert on Saturday? Here's what you can expect


...
By Gene Warner, Buffalo News

The Stones are coming. The Stones are coming. And some elements of the Rolling Stones’ visit to Ralph Wilson Stadium on Saturday night may surprise people – especially in the number of fans expected, when they will start arriving, the availability of tickets and the going rate for seats.

Crowd size: While the stadium has a listed capacity of 71,857 for Buffalo Bills games, about 20,000 of those seats will not be available. Even though there are added seats on the stadium floor, the location of the stage at the stadium’s tunnel end apparently knocks out sections 115 to 130 and comparable sections in the upper levels.

“We’re expecting somewhere around 51,000 people, which is basically sold out,” Orchard Park Police Chief Mark F. Pacholec said Monday.

Multiple-day event: While stadium parking lots will open at 4 p.m. Saturday, four hours before the listed concert time, camper lots will open at noon Friday. So authorities are bracing for a large, early influx of die-hard Stones fans, many of them probably unfamiliar with the immediate area.

Almost sold out: After a quick check Monday on Ticketmaster.com, the original box-office venue, showed no pairs of tickets available in the cheapest price levels, originally on sale for $88.30 and $118.85 (including sales tax) per ticket. Limited numbers of seats seemed available in the $170.35 and $420.15 price ranges.

Front-row seats: While the Rolling Stones may belt out their signature, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” that’s not exactly true of the best seats in the house.
They’re available, on the secondary ticket market – for a ridiculous price, of course.

As an example, StubHub.com on Monday listed about a dozen pairs of tickets in the front row in front of the stage. The asking price ranged from $1,405 to $9,947, and that’s per ticket. The nation’s largest secondary ticket seller had more than 100 tickets available at an asking price of more than $1,000 apiece.

Other tickets: Late Monday, StubHub listed a total of 2,984 tickets available for Saturday’s concert.

Demand for tickets lukewarm: This is tricky, but most resold tickets appear to be pricing moderately, but not ridiculously, above the original box-office price at ticketmaster.com.

For example, in Section 105, in the far corner from the stage at the scoreboard end of the stadium, StubHub listed 22 tickets for sale Monday. Those seats initially cost $170.35 apiece (including sales tax) through ticketmaster.com. The asking price for those 22 tickets on Monday ranged from $168 to $263 apiece.

Timing: The concert time is listed at 8 p.m. Saturday, but this isn’t a Bills or Sabres game. Who knows what time Mick Jagger and his pals will strut on stage, after St. Paul and the Broken Bones warm up the crowd?

Turnstiles: Bills security officials couldn’t be reached for comment Monday, but fans are expected to have to abide by the same rules in effect at Bills games, outlawing, among other things, purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, backpacks, fanny packs and most seat cushions. Binoculars, small clutch bags and small, clear plastic bags are permitted.

Parking: Similar to a Bills game, concertgoers may park in the stadium lots or individuals’ private sites.

Roads: Again similar to Bills games, a section of Abbott Road, directly outside the stadium, will be closed starting at 3 p.m. Saturday. And westbound Big Tree Road will be closed after the game.

Hard to gauge since StubHub changed their interface and no longer shows total tickets available.
Hope to score a good pair there. Either way...I am all about the party!!

Just checked in to the asylum errr Hampton Inn. I asked if they were ready for us. No problem says the desk clerk.
Not wanting to scare him, I calmly said that's to be determined.
Looking for LJ and Jiving Sister Jan this evening for a warm up.

FROM TODAY'S BUFFALO NEWS. JEFF MIERS "GETS IT"

The Rolling Stones defy the passage of time

By Jeff Miers

...

What could a weather-beaten assemblage of 70-year-old men possibly know about rock ’n’ roll? Isn’t this music supposed to be the sole purview of the young and virile?

Well, I suppose being the last living embodiment of true rock ’n’ roll – which we’ll define as essentially white people appropriating African-American blues and adding an emphasis on the back-beat – gives one permission to play that music for whoever’s interested, and for as long as you please.

The Rolling Stones – the Strolling Bones, the Rolling Uglies, you’ve heard ‘em all before, no doubt – are in the midst of their Zip Code U.S. Tour which includes a stop Saturday at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The fact that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood are able to mount a tour of this magnitude is no small feat. But the fact that, after more than 50 years in the business, the Rolling Stones are actually in peak form as they haul their weary bones across the continent? This takes us into the area of the genuinely miraculous.

In case you’re worried that such praise is simply hyperbole from a scribe who has loved the Stones since childhood, caught them in concert everywhere from a vast stadium in Syracuse to an intimate club in Toronto, and is relieved that these guys are still alive and performing, consider this: On Tuesday, the band released “Sticky Fingers Live,” an in-concert rendering of a classic album that demands to be considered one of the Stones’ finest hours. Recorded during a warm-up gig at the small Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles a few weeks back, “Sticky Fingers Live” is ferociously good. It has the infamous garage-y grit, the subtle behind-the-beat smack provided by Watts, the “ancient form of weaving,” ragged-but-right interplay between guitarists Richards and Wood, and the inimitable sass and strut of frontman Jagger all in abundant evidence.

This is the Stones as the cosmos intended them to exist. Irreverent, on fire, filthy, carrying on as if the whole world agrees with their assessment that Chuck Berry and Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters created the world, and all we’re doing is living in it – this is what the Stones have always done. And, despite their many journeys around the sun, they’re doing it today as well as they ever have.

Jagger, Richards, Watts and Wood aren’t doing it all alone – the band has, for several decades, benefited from the considerable input of keyboardist/musical director Chuck Leavell, bassist Daryl Jones, and singers Bernard Fowler and Lisa Fischer.

All can share in the responsibility for the Stones’ late-career renaissance. Some might argue that this renaissance does not include new material worthy of standing alongside the band’s finest work, but that’s a matter of opinion. Either way, as great as so many of their studio recordings have been, the Stones always have been a live band. The stage is their canvas.

Why do the Rolling Stones matter today? Sure, nostalgia will have something to do with it for a portion of the audience set to fill Ralph Wilson Stadium. However, some of that crowd will include fans that were still waiting to be born the last time the Stones played the same venue in October 1997. (That was a killer show, too.) The Stones have become something shared between generations – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, aging musicians and young upstarts, even grandparents and grandkids.

It’s more than reasonable to suggest that this will be the last time we’ll see and hear the Stones in concert. (For some, it will also be the first time.) When the band is gone, there won’t be another like it. We don’t really call it rock ’n’ roll any more – it’s now known as rock, an incredibly broad categorization that basically means not jazz, not classical, and not mainstream pop.

But for the Stones, it means Muddy Waters. It means the blues electrified and played loud. It means that bump-and-grind drum figure that heralds the arrival of “Honky Tonk Women” and the iconic two-chord guitar intro of “Brown Sugar.” It means that English white boy trying to be James Brown, and failing, created something of his own along the way. It means that frustrated adolescent yearning that never really goes away, no matter how old you grow.

The Stones are our last true conduit to all of this. Bless their crooked little hearts.

“What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there,” he says. “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.” - Keef

Charlie's blasting Jazz in his hotel suite per my source at Stones Central. Charlotte is with him. A lifelong friend of mine and fellow Stones fanatic happens to be a Chef there and has been for 20 years.

Band was snuck in through the Kitchen last night.

Bellmen report Jagger was very friendly and room service reports the same regarding encounters with Keith. Theo has also been seen near the pool area.

Mick ate dinner last night at Ristorante Lombardo on Hertel Ave., a mere 4 minutes from my apartment.

Rumor has it dinner tonight at Rue Franklin; one of Buffalo's finest serving French cuisine.

I am so happy for my City. It's finally our turn and because the City has gone through such a resurgence the Band doesn't have to flee to Niagara Falls or Toronto or East Aurora for accommodations, fine dining and great sights.

Buffalove!!!

Jagger dines at Ristorante Lombardo [Buffalo]

Visitors to Ristorante Lombardo on Hertel Avenue were in for a big surprise Thursday night.

Eating dinner at another table was – apologies to Paul McCartney – arguably the most famous rock star in the world.

Mick Jagger, who flew into Buffalo Niagara International Airport earlier in the day on a 747 sporting the Rolling Stones’ logo, was at the Italian restaurant with a small group in advance of the band’s concert Saturday at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

“It was a small party of maybe five people, and pretty low-key. Everybody left him alone,” Tommy Lombardo Sr. said.

There were bodyguards, too. “He’s one of the most famous people in the world, right?” he said.

Lombardo said it was also “exceptionally busy with people from out of town,” noting the irony that some were in Buffalo to see Jagger and the Stones in concert.

“For people who were here for dinner, it was a special treat,” Lombardo said. “It was nice they came to dinner, and we treated them like we treat all of our customers. We respected his privacy.

“We appreciated he chose us,” he said.

Last month, in Columbus, Jagger ended up at a place called Mangano's after reportedly asking for "the best Italian in the city," according to the Columbus Dispatch.
