The Sticky Finger set is already down to 2 songs? On the plus side. No Kid Rock sighting on the Stones set.

you guys know I don't do reviews.. Just a couple of comments.  My last concert was in 2007 when Keith was not at his best. And after 8 years, I wasn't too sure what to expect.  Despite a few bumpy spots, I honestly think the guys are playing better than they did back then.  The flip side of this- is how could they not, when they play all the same songs every time ?!!!  Glad that Kid Rock did not make it out on the stage. The Hang On Sloopy was a great touch as well as the gray and red tongues with buckeyes in them. A great evening spent with The Rolling Stones. And the rain stayed away....

Nice to visit with a few Stones friends I haven't seen in the same amount of years.  Missed Jini tonight, but we had a great time at the Tim Ries Project last night. Look forward to her photos and videos.  I didn't bother with my camera- as I knew she would have photos and videos 100 times better!

Mick Jagger and Rolling Stones give a little 'Satisfaction' to 60,000 in Columbus (concert review)

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Mick Jagger, resplendent in a black shirt, sparkly scarlet jacket and black "trousers'' that were more accurately leggings, had a few questions for the 60,000 or so Rolling Stones fans who packed the Horseshoe at The Ohio State University on Saturday night.

"Anybody here from Cleveland?''

Roar!

"Anybody here from Dayton?''

Roar!

Anybody here from Cin-cin-naaaaaa-ti?'' (He had to draw that one out.)

Roar!

"You're welcome.''

Cheeky little bugger, isn't he?

But the fact of the matter is that we WERE grateful that the Rolling Stones, who have been coming to Ohio since 1964, decided to make a return appearance to the Buckeye State. Even if it was a little – OK, a lot – further South than Cleveland, whom they last visited when Jimmy Carter was president, would've preferred.

Jagger, who hasn't gained an ounce since the doctor snipped his umbilical cord 71 years ago, remains the consummate showman. That's necessary when you surround yourself with guys like guitarists Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards and drummer Charlie Watts (who actually SMILED during the show at least once).

Remarkably, the trademark Jagger strut has not gone away, or even lessened that much. And I think Bob Fosse's estate owes him a commission because I truly believe it was Jagger who invented – or at the very least perfected – "jazz hands.''

I don't want to keep harping on the age thing – ain't none of us getting younger – but Jagger and Keef are 71, Watts is 73 and Wood is the baby at 67. Up close, 50-plus years of the rock 'n' roll lifestyle shows on their faces. But – and this is the important part – not in their hearts.

Jagger's spins and rockified two-step have all the same verve and vigor they had when he was 17 instead of 71 – so maybe his biological clock is dyslexic. To be fair, Richards and Wood aren't the most mobile of guitarists, but they've never really been the bounce-around, drop-of-water-on-a-hot-skillet top of performer. And Watts, bless his soul, is about the most stoic drummer I've ever seen; he doesn't even GRIMACE. But they all are Mount Rushmore solid.

And what's amazing is that they did it for two hours and 15 minutes STRAIGHT. True, Jagger took a three-song break to let Richards take a two-song turn as frontman.

Richards' vocals on "Before They Make Me Run'' may not have been Pavarotti-worthy, but that didn't matter. The best part of that song – and several others in the 20-song set – is what they demonstrated: Great guitar playing isn't about being able to fire notes per second like an M60 on full auto; truth be told a computer can learn that. It's about texture and nuance. Richards and Wood, who traded leads on several tunes and also did some harmony leads, proved that beyond a doubt.

But let's not kid ourselves. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers' show was all about nostalgia. The set list – from opener "Jumpin' Jack Flash'' to the final encore "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" – it is all about trying to recapture, or at least remember, our lost youth.

Which would, I think, possibly explain that distinctive "aroma'' from behind me. By the way, does anyone have an Oreos? I'm hungry for some reason.

Hearing "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It),'' "Let's Spend the Night Together'' and especially "Wild Horses'' (perhaps Jagger's best vocal foray of the night) was like turning Mr. Peabody's Wayback Machine up to 11.

Having a sense of humor helps, too. Almost as much as having a sense of the value of dancing with who brung you. That would explain the rousing chorus of "Hang On Sloopy'' – the official state rock song, and its requisite O-H-I-O interlude – to preface the real fan-chosen song of the set, "Paint It Black.''

It's also tough to top the cowbell in "Honky Tonk Woman,'' brightened by a rollicking Jerry Lee Lewis-worthy keyboard break by Chuck Leavell.

But perhaps no song better captured the jam feel of the night better than "Midnight Rambler,'' with Jaggers rockin' harp solos.

And it WAS a jam night. Many times, you could see Watts looking at Richards looking at Wood wondering when the heck Jagger was going to end a song. Truth be told, that DID lead to a couple of rather ragged endings. But more than that – MUCH more than that – it highlighted the difference between the sometimes sterile, calculated "rock'' of today and what real rock 'n' roll was.

I know it sounds like I'm an old fogie, standing on my porch and railing against "you kids today.'' But the reality is that THIS is what rock 'n' roll is all about.

Detroit's Kid Rock proved a worthy opener, filling his 45 minutes with fun songs, including his hit "All Summer Long,'' and showing off his skills as a guitarist, DJ and drummer as well as vocalist and songwriter, especially with the tune "Forty.''

But I have to imagine the guy from Detroit sort of empathized with those of us who live in Ohio after getting to hear and see the legendary Rolling Stones one more time

quite a bit further back on the field, but they upgraded a bunch of us to the front section, so I ended
up being much closer than expected. Despite the threat of rain and that there had been storms earlier
in the evening, the weather was perfect for the show. I just love the fact that these guys are still going
strong and are capable of putting on a sold show that is very entertaining besides the fact that they are
living legends. Catch them while you can, and you won't be disappointed. Long live the Stones! Enjoy!

as it was so nicely pointed out to me by Gazza:  we got a 1:22  song (that even elementary school students can play- my commentary not Gazza"s) to win over the stadium instead of a Sticky Fingers song like Dead Flowers or Moonlight Mile....

From Wikipedia

Official rock song of the state of Ohio[edit]

In April 1985, Joe Dirck, columnist for the Columbus Citizen-Journal, saw a wire service story about a proposal to designate "Louie, Louie" as the official State song of Washington and wrote a series of tongue-in-cheek columns. He even registered as a lobbyist for the resolution. Dirck, who played bass guitar in rock bands himself, knew the McCoys, particularly Rick Derringer. He said it was a good fit because the McCoys were from the Dayton area, and Ohio State marching band had adopted it as an unofficial anthem. Both the public and its elected officials—most importantly, the 116th Ohio General Assembly became aware their State lacked an official song as a result of the exposure from his commentary. They designated "Hang On Sloopy" as the State rock song by House Concurrent Resolution 16 on November 20, 1985, with clauses including:
"WHEREAS, "Hang On Sloopy" is of particular relevance to members of the baby boom generation, who were once dismissed as a bunch of long-haired, crazy kids, but who now are old enough and vote in sufficient numbers to be taken quite seriously..."
and
"WHEREAS, Adoption of this resolution will not take too long, cost the State anything, or affect the quality of life in this State to any appreciable degree, and if we in the legislature just go ahead and pass the darn thing, we can get on with more important stuff."[7]
Professional sports[edit]

"Hang On Sloopy" is now also the official song of Major League Baseball's Cleveland Indians, who play at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Many American ballparks have a tradition of choosing an 8th inning song for the fans and team, and "Hang On Sloopy" fills that role, and is played during the middle of every 8th inning. The song also plays at the end of the 3rd quarter at FirstEnergy Stadium during every Cleveland Browns game, and is also played at Cleveland Cavaliers games at Quicken Loans Arena.[citation needed]. During Indians games it is common for fans to yell "O-H-I-O!" following the chorus.

For those who like me, didn't know about it (and I went several times to Cincinnati when I was in P&G

Ohio's State Rock Song - Hang On Sloopy

...
The Ohio State University Marching Band performing "Script Ohio" at Ohio Stadium in the 1960s. A staple of the marching band's repertoire is the Ohio's official state rock song, "Hang on Sloopy" first played on October 9, 1965 at the Ohio State vs. Illinois football game.

In 1985, the Ohio General Assembly approved "Hang on Sloopy" as Ohio's official rock song. The Ohio General Assembly adopted an official rock song after Joe Dirck, a columnist for the Columbus Citizen-Journal, wrote a column about the State of Washington considering the adoption of its own rock song. The Ohio General Assembly responded by making "Hang on Sloopy" Ohio's rock song. Ohio is the only state to have an official rock song.

Bert Berns and Wes Farrell co-wrote the song, and "Hang on Sloopy" became a major hit for the band The McCoys in 1965. The McCoys were originally from Dayton, Ohio. The song was about Dorothy Sloop of Steubenville, Ohio. A singer, Sloop sometimes used the stage name Sloopy.

The resolution establishing "Hang on Sloopy" as Ohio's rock song had a number of  references to the song's lyrics and to the song's importance to Ohioans. The resolution read:

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 16

WHEREAS, The members of the 116th General Assembly of Ohio wish to recognize the rock song "Hang On Sloopy" as the official rock song of the great State of Ohio; and

WHEREAS, In 1965, an Ohio-based rock group known as the McCoys reached the top of the national record charts with "Hang On Sloopy," composed by Bert Russell and Wes Farrell, and that same year, John Tagenhorst, then an arranger for the Ohio State University Marching Band, created the band's now-famous arrangement of "Sloopy," first performed at the Ohio State-Illinois football game on October 9, 1965; and

WHEREAS, Rock music has become an integral part of American culture, having attained a degree of acceptance no one would have thought possible twenty years ago; and

WHEREAS, Adoption of "Hang On Sloopy" as the official rock song of Ohio is in no way intended to supplant "Beautiful Ohio" as the official state song, but would serve as a companion piece to that old chestnut; and

WHEREAS, If fans of jazz, country-and-western, classical, Hawaiian and polka music think those styles also should be recognized by the state, then by golly, they can push their own resolution just like we're doing; and

WHEREAS, "Hang On Sloopy" is of particular relevance to members of the Baby Boom Generation, who were once dismissed as a bunch of long-haired, crazy kids, but who now are old enough and vote in sufficient numbers to be taken quite seriously; and

WHEREAS, Adoption of this resolution will not take too long, cost the state anything, or affect the quality of life in this state to any appreciable degree, and if we in the legislature just go ahead and pass the darn thing, we can get on with more important stuff; and

WHEREAS, Sloopy lives in a very bad part of town, and everybody, yeah, tries to put my Sloopy down; and

WHEREAS, Sloopy, I don't care what your daddy do, 'cause you know, Sloopy girl, I'm in love with you; therefore be it Resolved, That we, the members of the 116th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, name "Hang On Sloopy" as the official rock song of the State of Ohio; and be it further Resolved, That the Legislative Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio.

The lyrics to "Hang On Sloopy" are as follows.

Hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on
Hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on

Sloopy lives in a very bad part of town
and everybody yeah, tries to put my sloopy down
Sloopy I don't care, what your daddy do
Cuz you know sloopy, girl, I'm in love with you

and so I sing out

Hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on
Hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on

Sloopy wears a red dress, yeah
As old as the hills
but when sloopy wears that red dress, yeah
you know it gives me the chills

Sloopy when I see you walking,
walking down the street
I say don't worry sloopy, girl
You belong to me

and so I sing out

Hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on
Hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on
(yeah) (yeah) (yeah) (yeah) Let's give it to 'em (Guitar solo)

Sloopy let your hair down, girl
Let it hang down on me
Sloopy let your hair down, girl
Let it hang down on me, yeah

come on sloopy (come on, come on)
oh come on sloopy (come on, come on)
oh come on sloopy (come on, come on)
oh come on sloopy (come on, come on)

well it feels so good (come on, come on)
you know it feels so good (come on, come on)
well shake it, shake it, shake it sloopy (come on, come on)
shake it, shake it, shake it yeah (come on, come on) (Scream)

hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on
(yeah) (yeah) (yeah) (yeah)
hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on
(yeah) (yeah) (yeah) (yeah)
hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on
