With the Mick Jagger produced special on James Brown coming out this Monday on HBO, check out this James Brown number – TRY ME - that the Stones attempted to record on May 11, 1965. (According to several fansite discographies, the day after SATISFACTION.) If you close your eyes and concentrate, you can substitute Jagger’s vocals and think about if it works. Unfortunately, it didn’t for the group at that time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxIPD8XiwIgOne can do the same for several songs that are listed in the early Stones setlists when they played clubs. They’re simple blues numbers but fun to listen to.
For example, I’M A HOG FOR YOU, BABY – sung by The Coasters.

Hey, Mick even tried to record an album of blues songs, but for some reason gave up on it. Any time he or Keith have contributed on songs from blues artists they sound great.
