How concerned should the New Orleans Saints be if the Atlanta Falcons select Jadeveon Clowney in the 2014 NFL draft?

The Atlanta Falcons have some of the best talent in the NFL. To remember that is sometimes difficult. That's what an injury-filled 4-12 season will do.

This cbssports.com report says the Falcons might soon make a major addition to that talent by trading up for the No. 1 overall selection in the 2014 NFL draft to pick former South Carolina pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

This would be a rare opportunity for a team that played for a conference championship 15 months ago to pick arguably the draft's best prospect.

This also could leave the New Orleans Saints with figuring out how to stop a potentially powerful and quick defensive end in two games per season, starting with the 2014 opener.

What do you think? Would you be concerned if the Falcons add Clowney to their already-talented roster? Do the Saints have enough to protect quarterback Drew Brees from this defense if it adds Clowney? Or is the expectation level around Clowney higher than what he will produce?

There are but a couple of hours left until the first pick of the NFL Draft is announced and it continues to look like the team that earned it with their play on the field will be the team that exercises it on Thursday night.

Falcons General Manager Thomas Dimitroff told the NFL Network that a trade up to the first overall pick is “highly unlikely.” The Falcons were seen as one of the teams with interest in making a trade with the Texans for a chance to select any player of their choosing, but the price to make that move may have been higher than they were willing to pay.

Prices, hearts and minds can change so there’s no use ruling anything out until the selection is actually made, but Dimitroff’s words follow earlier reports that the Texans had turned their attention away from a trade. Mike Florio of PFT has heard that South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will be that choice, but, again, there’s still time for things to go a different way.

If the Falcons hold onto their fourth pick, they’re expected to take an offensive tackle or, if he’s still available, Buffalo linebacker Khalil Mack.

Thomas Dimitroff has pulled off a trade in each of his six drafts since being named Atlanta Falcons general manager in 2008.

In the hours leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft, he's once again laying the groundwork for a potential blockbuster.

Dimitroff told NFL Media's Rich Hollenberg on Thursday afternoon that he's engaging in active discussions with other teams and a trade is in play.

As Hollenberg astutely points out, general managers Les Snead of the Rams (No. 2 overall) and David Caldwell of the Jaguars (No. 3 overall) were formerly Dimitroff lieutenants in Atlanta. The Falcons' boss is also on good terms with new Browns GM Ray Farmer.

While previous attention has been on the possibility of a trade-up for Jadeveon Clowney at the top of the draft, it now appears Dimitroff's relationship with Farmer might pay dividends.

According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, it's more likely that the Falcons would target Buffalo linebacker Khalil Mack if he's still on the board when the Browns pick at No. 4 overall.

If the pre-draft trade rumors are any indication, Dimitroff is placing a higher priority on pass rushers than pass protectors early in the first round.

We are just that.  I love sports!  Football is my favorite, the real football second...but I watch all kinds of things.  Makes hubby nuts.  With the Winter Olympics and the World Cup added to my normal viewing schedule the poor guy is going nuts.

Me too, Angela.  I love NFL football, NBA basketball for the incredible athleticism, and track and field.  I stay away from hockey because it's not a real sport when limited to whitey.  Don't watch much baseball either because fat white people seem to excel - i.e., the game is limited.

I also enjoy drugs and alcohol.

Group Trying to Stop Jon Bon Jovi From Buying the Buffalo Bills
by Dave Lifton May 21, 2014 2:46 PM

...
12thmanthunder.com

The death of Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson in March has raised speculation that Jon Bon Jovi will try to buy the team and move them Toronto. However, some longtime Bills fans are trying to clip Bon Jovi’s wings.

The group, which calls itself 12th Man Thunder, has started a campaign to keep the Bills in Buffalo. In addition to an online petition, they are working to get bars and restaurants throughout the region to stop playing Bon Jovi’s music, and have created a poster to let Bon Jovi know that he is not wanted in their city, neither dead nor alive.

“We’ve had it with Jon Bon Jovi and his Toronto ownership group working to steal our team,” said Charles Sonntag, co-founder of the group. “There are thousands of fans that agree with us, so we decided to start the ‘Bon Jovi Free Zone’ promotion to let him and the poachers in Toronto know that we won’t just stand by and let them move the Bills to Toronto. We’re asking Buffalo area bars and restaurants to contact us and we’ll give them a free poster to show their commitment to banning Bon Jovi music from their premises.”

Although no official offer has been made, it was confirmed yesterday that Bon Jovi has joined forces with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment — owners of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors and Toronto FC — with the intention of buying the Bills and moving them to the other side of Lake Ontario.

Two NFL owners, John Mara of the New York Giants and Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys, appear to have no problem with the deal. “He’s got a really good knowledge and passion for the game, and he’s obviously a smart businessman,” Mara said. “If he puts together the right group of people I think he could be a very successful owner.” Jones, for his part, called him “an outstanding candidate to be an owner in the NFL, and he’s a great friend.”
