The Rides Of Late Summer

Thursday 7/11/13

Described as a “blues-rock summit,” The Rides, featuring Stephen Stills, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Electric Flag keyboardist Barry Goldberg, will launch a touring adventure in late August in support of the group’s debut album.

What can you expect from The Rides?  The trio’s first album – Can’t Get Enough – features co-written originals while covering songs by Muddy Waters, Elmore James, Igg And The Stooges and Neil Young.  Can’t Get Enough drops on 429 Records Aug. 27.

Although Goldberg and Stills played Al Kooper’s 1968 project, the two artists appeared on different sides of the resulting album and had never actually met face-to-face until their mutual manager, Elliot Roberts, suggested that they collaborate – a team-up that resulted in The Rides.

“It was like finding a long lost soul brother,” Goldberg said.  “We connected on so many things, started jamming, and soon had begun writing our first song.”

A taste of The Rides comes to us via a lyrics video for the album’s first single, “Don’t Want Lies.”

The tour takes place between Crosby, Stills & Nash’s summer run through Europe and CSN’s October tour of the United Kingdom.  The two gigs at New York’s Iridium Jazz Club will be filmed for a television concert.  Here’s the schedule:

“What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there,” he says. “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.” - Keef
