She probably will do Gimme Shelter, but Miss You might be more appropriate.

Hadn't thought of that. Good call.

So what does Springsteen do? "Gimme Shelter"? That could be tough as hell, the way he'd sing it. Might even get a lead in. And what if Miami Steve were with him? Ya know how excitable those two get...

They could do Sweet Virginia or Dead Flowers. Bruce has played them both in bars or at guest appearances down the years.

Or Street Fighting Man, which hes played in the past.

Or just as easily nothing that he's covered before. Its not as if these songs should be hard to pull off.

Bruce has covered the following Stones songs in concert down the years

Beast of Burden
Dead Flowers
Honky Tonk Women
Jumpin' Jack Flash
Play With Fire
Ride On Baby
Street Fighting Man
Sweet Virginia
Tell Me
The Last Time
You Cant Always Get What You Want
(granted, some of these were WAY back before he even had  a record deal!)

and has performed the following songs which have also been covered by the Stones :

Aint Too Proud To Beg
Around and Around
Back In The USA
Bright Lights Big City
Bye Bye Johnny
Carol
Confessin' The Blues
Cry To Me
Drift Away
Get Up Stand Up
Good Times Bad Times
Hi Heel Sneakers
Hound Dog
I Cant Turn You Loose
If You Need Me
Its All Over Now
Like A Rolling Stone
Little Queenie
Mercy Mercy
Mona
Money
My Girl
Not Fade Away
Roll Over Beethoven
Route 66
Sweet Little Sixteen
Time Is On My Side
Twenty Flight Rock
Under The Boardwalk
Walkin' The Dog

Source - http://brucebase.wikispaces.com/Songlist

(he's also done 'Run Rudolph Run' amongst others that the Stones solo members have played)

A fine curatorial effort here, but I'm bracing myself for a letdown. Relatively speaking. I'm still excited. Don't get me wrong!

My hunch is, Bruce will have to be the one who gets creative with his suggestions. And since he's a genuinely good-natured guy, maybe they'll listen to him!

I'm excited to see Bruce share the stage with the Stones, but I'm resigning myself to a dull and predictable Last Time or IORR. Remember the days when they did special one-offs with guests -- "Salt of the Earth," Boogie Chillen," "Stop Breaking Down," "Corrina, Corrina" -- instead of just assimilating them into the same old set list?

Yup. Wouldn't happen (?), but what if they let him do a couple songs, maybe at the end of the show pre-encores. And what if he called an audible... something sweet like "Drift Away" or...or..."Pay Me My Money Down" - hahahaha!

Oddly enough, I'm not as excited as I should be. I think it'll be very good, but as its my two favourite live acts sharing a stage for the first time it could end up being a bit underwhelming instead of earth-shattering.

A bit like that movie 'The Score' when De Niro and Brando finally ended up on film together !

All-star jams often do end up very underwhelming, yeah. But you know Springsteen'll give it his all, 'cause he's like that. I just hope he doesn't show up Jagger!

Doubt he'll try. I've seen him perform guest slots at other artist's shows before and while he'll give it 100% as you say, its not his style to consciously try and upstage anyone. It's the Stones' gig.

"Marlon Brando took to calling director Frank Oz "Fozzy" and "Miss Piggy" during the movie. Oz is the voice of the Fozzy Bear and Miss Piggy characters in The Muppets. Brando's hazing of Oz over his work with the Muppets got so bad that Robert De Niro was forced to direct Brando instead, with Oz giving him instructions via headset. "

Assuming they keep the setlist roughly the same as the first three shows, I guess we can assume Gaga would be on "Gimme Shelter", and probably the Black Keyes on "Going Down". Springsteen is kind of the wild card here. He could do practically anything and make it really work.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Gaga AND Bruce on "Gimme Shelter" (Bruce could really chew up that lyric and make it soar) - Gaga's a huge fan of his, they're both Jersey natives; it would be really strange and different. Older traditionalist with younger outrageous pop diva - it'd piss a lot of people off (good) but it could be very exciting. Plus the whole Sandy thing...

Well Bruce and LGG do have history together. They played a Save the Rainforest benefit with Sting a few years ago and played together.

Oddly enough I have seen no advertising for the Pay Per View event yet. Has anyone seen any commercials about it? We on the boards know but what about the rest of the world, how will they know about it?

It will make for an interesting show.  Although I am not a GagGag admirer, I think she will be a great fit with Mick and as for the other two acts:  they rock out on their own and could do almost any Rolling Stone tune with ease.  Like Mel..I wish they would do something other than the songs they've played the last 3 concerts, but hey.. I know it ain't gonna happen..

Sky have been advertising it here in the UK quite regularly over the last few days.

Just occured to me - Bruce will obviously do a Chuck Berry number. How can the Stones do these shows without doing a Chuck tune?
Pick a song, any song...these cats can do that shit in their sleep (and real good too, thanks. Chuck ain't easy to do right).

And then there's Bo and Buddy...bring on "Mona" or "Not Fade Away" (and FAST this time).

Doubt it. They stopped doing Chuck songs during the BTB tour when they had televised shows - apparently because Chuck asked for too much money for broadcast rights to his songs.

They havent played a single Berry song in concert since that tour.

Is that right? Christ, I can't tell who's the stingier, meaner tightwads - Chuck or the Stones. I'm sure Chucks got some Scots blood in him. Aye, ye mean man!

Just listening to David Johansen & the Harry Smiths first album, and had a another brilliant choice for a guest for the first Newark shows (get Mick on the phone now, dammit!):
Johansen! He's just across the river, could be there on short notice, quick study, and he's one of the best R&B/soul inflected rock n' roll singers around.

Muddy's "I Can't Be Satisfied", Sonny Boy's "Don't You Start Me Talkin" - or shit, any Stones song.

Okay. That's it. Yup, I remember hearing of it being rehearsed in Paris, but it didn't register after the London gigs.

But that's gotta be the one for Springsteen. Perfect vocal match (well, as much as you can ATTEMPT to match the Big 0), perfect feel for Bruce. Yep. That's gotta be the song. Niiiice call, man.
