Another gold medal moment yesterday!!!!

Betty called me at the office to tell me her phone rang and when she picked it up she heard a voice say "Mom? It's me".

Yep. Mary is now talking! With the help of a special tube (she is still trached) and the good work she has done with the Respiratory Therapists, she can talk. Her Mother said she was very clear headed and sounded just like her old self.

Mom and daughter had a nice long chat after nearly 6 months.

She is now eating!!!! Soft foods to start but after 6 months, I'm sure custard and jello taste like filet mignon.
Her spirits have never been better and she is completely clear minded. Today she wanted to know everything that has happened to her during this hospitalization.

Here's a funny story. The Doctor put a new tube in her throat today to help her to speak more clearly. He said "Okay Mary say something."
Mary replies: "Something".
Doctor: "Say something else".
Mary: "Fuck You".

I TALKED TO MY MARY!!!!! For the first time since she's been in the hospital I talked to my beloved friend. Not for too long; she's not feeling very good today; says her tummy and back hurt and that she's a little short of breath. Also said they got her up to walk today but that she wasn't able to take any steps. She had a little trouble hearing me but she told me she does remember me being there to visit. She sounded pretty clear and admitted "I think they are a little mad at me; they are trying to push me to do more, but you know me. I don't like to be pushed". I told her that she had to work hard to get home to Betty and that I knew she could do it. She replied "I think I"ll make it home". And then she asked me "So how have you been kid?" I told her I was fine and I just want her to get better. And then it was time to hang up. Only a few minutes but the BEST FEW MINUTES ON THE PHONE I'VE HAD IN MONTHS!!!!
