Pink Floyd, Blur, Led Zeppelin albums to feature on Royal Mail stamps

David Bowie, New Order, Primal Scream and Coldplay will also feature
October 15, 2009 | 0 Comments

Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Blur, The Clash and Led Zeppelin are among the acts set to feature on a new range of Royal Mail stamps.

...

A set of 10 stamps featuring classic British album sleeves will enter circulation on January 7 next year, according to stamp collecting website Norvic Philatelics.

Albums in the collection include 'The Division Bell' by Pink Floyd, 'Parklife', 'London Calling', 'Led Zeppelin IV', 'Power, Corruption & Lies' by New Order, Primal Scream's 'Screamadelica', 'Let It Bleed' by The Rolling Stones, Coldplay's 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head', 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars' by David Bowie and Mike Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells'.

Royal Mail are said to have assembled a shortlist of classic albums, though initially some were deemed unusable due to the darkness of the image.

“What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there,” he says. “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.” - Keef

Interesting choices. As far as I know, apart from the monarch, you can't have your photo on a UK stamp if you're still alive.

That would make Bowie and Paul Simonon of The Clash pretty unique then

Might also account for why they chose Let It Bleed instead of Dirty Work...... really?

Pretty cool...interesting choice of CD covers...Division Bell???? Why no DSOTM???

No Beatles?!? I find that odd...I would rather lick UNDERCOVER instead of LIB...but that's just me!!!

Nice! But it would have made more sense to have your album featured on a stamp belonging to a functioning postal system. I think even the Zimbabwean post must be more efficient than ours....

The strike is announced for Thurs/Fri next week, just in time to fuck up Paris's PeePee's Around the World Trip again
