The PS3 does it all... I'm not sure if there's a format it doesn't play...

There have been several versions of the PS3 with different hard drive capacity, not sure if the later models (like mine) have the SACD technology, since that format didn't last all that long.  My PS3 mentions quite a few formats in can read, I don't believe anything about SACD though.  Anybody have info on this?

Sony owns both SACD and PS3... All consoles should play it...

if you own a Ps3 and can't play your SACD's, try this. I was confused at first too... there's a few settings ect to be tweaked and it must be hooked up to get optimal sound. good luck...

OK thanks for the info. Honestly I've never tried it out because I don't have much for an audio setup right now. Hopefully that will change soon, I've got all these SACDs practically going to waste

after a quick look at that link you sent me, I found this:

"Do all PS3s play SA-CD?

Not anymore, unfortunately. The third generation, introduced worldwide in October/November 2007, is the first model that is not SACD-compatible. Probably all future models aren’t either. All models are compatible with DSD Disc."

Doesn't surprise me, its a dead technology even if it does belong to Sony.  With how hard they're pushing blu ray and still trying to keep the price of the system down I wouldn't expect them to but in too many features most people don't need.
BUT, I did check and my PS3 has the SACD logo on top, so I am happy.  Now I just need a new reciever

bummer about the PS3's and no more SACD play on new models.  you're correct, a dead technology. it seems all hi-res formats are dying as well as cd's in general... although vinyl seems to be coming back...

only the 60 gig ps3 model plays sacd. if it does not have the sacd logo on it, it will not play sacd. they all play dsd, but you either have to buy a dsd format disc, or burn the blurays yourself. this will NOT work for the stones stuff - you need a sacd player for that...

oppo makes a player that does all the formats - sacd and dvd-a, and it runs a couple of bills. there are others, but as you can see, they are much more expensive.

I'm so glad i got the PS3 with a big HD... didn't even know it played SACD's til much after... then i just assumed it was standard b/c it was Sony.
I even did an a/b with my SACD player and my PS3, both with a dig. optical output to see which I thought played better... and I noticed a dif. the PS plays better to my ears... both are Sony's but my SACD player wasn't real expensive either... but... I think my Cd's sound best through my 6.1 hookups... ugh. the sad thing is, I'm so busy with family and stuff, and the kids love to watch scooby, i only have a little time to listen to music right now...
