The Mullets Take Asia Tour '88...

Thanks for posting, Mel.

I've read in a couple of 'biographies' that a NA tour was cancelled due to poor ticket sales - which is absolute bollocks, as no tour was ever announced. Maybe they'd put a few feelers out and were a bit taken aback that promoters weren't falling all over themselves in the way that Jagger and Walter Yetnikoff had envisioned for his projected post-Stones solo career.

I think the main reason why he went to Japan and Australia/NZ was probably that they were 'fresh' markets (the Stones had never played Japan and hadnt been Down Under since 1973) so maybe they felt that there would be a warmer reception for Jagger performing without the Stones than there would have been in America or Europe.

And Jagger was right. His tour here was massive. I think he did 8 shows in Melbourne alone! At the time, and this was of course at the height of the Jagger/Richards mutual hatred, most of us thought we'd never see the real thing. Jagger, interviewed on our version of MTV was scathing of the Stones and Keith. Very dismissive. It was obvious this was hit "Stones are a millstone around my neck" phase. It was a terrible mistake for the Stones to ignore us for so long. They lost 2-3 generations of potential fans. Not touring here in 81-82 in particular really pissed me off!

Jagger's solo show was great though. I really enjoyed his solo stuff at the time. He brought those songs to life really well. I had great seats too. Simon Phillips is one of my all-time fave drummers and he was bloody fantastic! The terrible part was Jimmy Rip. Man, what a Keith clone! ANd that flat-chested chick with the "keytar" was woeful. The truly odd thing was Joe Satriani didnt impress me at all. His big solo was incredibly lame.

I was so delighted that only 1 year later, all was back to normal. However, i was really, really fucking pissed they didnt tour here with Steel Wheels. A terrible snub i thought. You'd think with the reception solo Jagger got, they'd be keen to come back. They would have broken records, and again, won over a new generation of fans.

Fuckers owe us!!

Didn't Simon Phillips play with the Who on their '89-'90 tour?

Music, to me, is the joy, right? I love my kids most of the time, and I love my wife most of the time. Music I love all the time. It's the only constant thing in my life. It's the one thing you can count on. :Keith Richards 1993

I seem to recall that, too.

i tried listening to those soundboards from micks solo shows, and i couldn't... it was painfil... just too much of the electro 80's drums sound, cheesey guitars and the synth stuff... ugh. def. you can see the progression into Steel Wheels shows... much of the same production for the live stuff...

You heard the '88 version of CYHMK?  Try to keep it that way.
