Great news if true.
And - it'll give them something to tour behind in 2010.
Taking that statement word-for-word and at face value, it would suggest maybe :
1) Some new 2009 recordings (the article mentions 1971-2009). I'd interpret that as a sign that this would be the 'new' material they'd put out to 'tour behind' like they did with Licks, as opposed to a fresh studio album(maybe they feel that the latter isnt worth working on, as they wont play much off it anyway and their audience may not be that interested)
2) It wont all be unreleased material (the article mentions that it
"includes" rare and unreleased studio and live material - not
"consists of". )
Really hope that it isnt an excuse for another compilation of hits padded out with a few nuggets to entice us. A wasted opportunity if that was the case.
Still, what with the Exile deluxe reissue, extended Ya Yas release, expanded Gimme Shelter and now this, it appears that the Universal era could be heralding in a long overdue extended raid on the archives.
Bring it on.
