what about the Stones reinvent the tour.
Instead of Mick and co trying to 'out-do' the previous shows and get bigger and bigger - why dont they pare it back and play smaller and more acoustic.

Get back to the music, strip it down, listening to that Fool To Cry out take again reminds how well the band can play,  and not all tracks have to be loud belters.
They have the songs thats for sure.

Oh, yer and Mick - dropping the red confetti at the end is still OK in my books.

one or 2 songs maybe, but i think it would bore people in the stadiums.  the i'm free and as tears go by on the shine a light dvd was just about perfect.  i don't think the stones will world tour in clubs where your idea would work.

Shit!

I'd like to see them do a few shows like this in select large-market cities, just can't see it happening for an entire tour.

The "casual fan/general public" will always want the hear the songs they hear on commercial radio.

Do they even hear those songs as much on the radio? I think taking a page from Daethgod's playbook is promising.

play for the fans of the band

not for the corporates or peeps who wanna say they were at a Stones gig

shows for the millions like us who 'get' what the band is about.

cmon Mick - 'celebrate the catalogue'

as they get older it makes more sense - less prancing about, less waving and showing off - play the songs guys.

Can the stones still play that well? I'd love to see an intimate or fairly intimate gig or tour, btu i dont think they - im looking at keith in particular - can do it, they need to hide behind the shine and spectacle, at least thats how i see it, i wish they could do small gigs, although the tickets would be imposisble to get

and they'll never do 'one for the real fans' or a fuck you to the corporations thing, they are corporate if you look at it objectively

ive been listening to alot of the 60s stuff, and its like a totally different band, i go back to it now and again, mostly stay with the early 70s and early 80s (79 - 84 being my favourite stones period i think), but they have some phenomenal songs, my current obsession is 'my obsession" and the entirety of between the buttons - why dont they play these? spose theyre technically impossible to tour with, but more of this would be nice, we got a glimpse with connection/im free/as tears go by on shine a light, courtesy of arm pulling from scorese i'm sure, btu they were great, more of that hopefully

Simple way around that.

Dont play any more fuckin' stadiums.

Its not like they absolutely NEED the revenue.

Daethgod says what I've been saying for years - although I'd tweak things a bit. Not just a case of 'playing for fans of the band' but 'playing for themselves'.

Everybody in the civilised world has surely had ample opportunity to see or hear the Stones play their greatest hits by now. And when you're charging people $1000 for a pair of tickets, there's a tendency to pander to them because for that money they're going to want to see you as their personal jukebox.

Time for the band to reclaim their own music for themselves and play what THEY want. After 47 years theyve earned that right. Plenty of other acts of a similar vintage are able to do that or at worst do it plus play a few big hits. The type of show they're playing shouldnt be dictated by the corporate fan who doesnt know their music and doesnt care to know more than about 10-12 songs.

Exactly
40 %
of the Stones released output has NEVER been performed in concert.

good point Gazz
has me beat why they don't play them
We know they are great songs, surely Mick and Keef know they are great songs

it's a mighty arsenal the boys are packing
time to fire it up

and if the band played for 'themselves' how much freaking FUN would they be having
touring would become a blast even for Charlie

hell, I'd even let Ronnie warble out 'Far East Man', 'Act Together', or 'Mystify'.

listen...you and i both know the stones are not going around the globe again playing smokey clubs and banging out acoustic numbers....for like a world tour so as to speak.  that is just wishful thinking.  it has never happened and i highly doubt it ever will.  mick will be 66 in a couple of weeks and i bet he can't be bothered with this idea.
i do believe the stones have one more world tour left in them and they will do stadiums again...mark my words and you can thank me later.
and when it comes time for down time they will not tour behind this acoustic world tour thingy idea...its not going to happen.  don't you think it would simpler for them to do an unplugged concert and call it done?

Are you fucking serious?

RE-INVENT?!?

I have said it before...recently as a matter of fact...

PLAY VEGAS!!!

3 or 4 shows a week...have THEME nights...sell them as special theme nights...Who wouldn't want to see an EXILE NITE?!? A 70's nite?!/  An ER/SG/TY nite!!!

a 69 and earlier nite?!? A RARITIES nite?!? an UNPLUGGED (mostly) nite?? All that mixed w/ a bunch of GREATEST HITS nites ( ok...that's for everyone else)

Play LV for 3 or 4 months...get plenty of rest between shows...no touring...no travel overhead w/ trucks/rigs, etc...and ALWAYS CLIMATE CONTROLLED (Hey Chicago!!!)

These guys do need a break and like GAZZA said...play for themselves...let the people come to them...!!!

That's a real REINVENTION...or INTERVENTION...LOL
