1969 Tour set list
"The fairly typical set list for the tour was:

"Jumpin' Jack Flash"
"Carol"
"Sympathy for the Devil"
"Stray Cat Blues"
"Love in Vain"
"Prodigal Son"
"You Gotta Move"
"Under My Thumb"
"I'm Free"
"Midnight Rambler"
"Live With Me"
"Little Queenie"
"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"
"Honky Tonk Women"
"Street Fighting Man"
There were some set list substitutions, variations, and order switches during the tour. Starting a trend that would continue for some years, the Stones ignored most of their pre-1968 catalogue, playing fewer songs from that period than they would songs not yet released.

a 30-45 minute dark star, i think, would have put the crowd to sleep.

Are you fucking serious?

This brings to mind of a John Fogerty Interview of playing at Woodstock, C.C.R. followed The Dead, they played for 3 hours, 25 minutes of that to tune up,  Roll Eyes the audience was asleep by the time Creedence came on, there was only one guy yelled out "We're with you John" & he said he played the entire concert for that one guy only.

Woodstock was actually a disaster for the Dead, who played a much shorter than usual set  They went on in the pouring rain with high winds and could barely be seen or heard.  They had to slash a tarp behind the stage because the wind was so strong it started to move the stage like a sail, and Bob Weir was thrown six feet back when his lip touched the mic and fingers touched his guitar at the same time.  The abbreviated set included:
       -St. Stephen
       -Mama Tried
       -Dark Star/High Time
       -Turn On Your Lovelight

It's true Creedence followed them, but in fact they were friends from the San Francisco club scene and have performed together many times.  I think Fogerty's story is embellished, but he may have been commenting on the impracticality of attempting to play Dark Star in a gale force wind.  CCR's Woodstock set, after the weather had cleared:

       -Born On The Bayou
       -Green River
       -Ninety-Nine And A Half (Won't Do)
       -Commotion
       -Bootleg
       -Bad Moon Rising
       -Proud Mary
-I Put A Spell On You
-Night Time Is The Right Time
       -Keep On Choogin'
       -Suzy Q

The Who came on next, with the sun rising right at the climax of Tommy.

You know what? Creedance would have to be the most over looked band in history. At one stage, they outsold EVERYONE. Released some out and out classics - yet seem to be forgotten. They never seem to make any list of influential bands & their songs never get into top 10, 100, 500 lists. None of their albums are ever mentioned.

It's really weird.

And i STILL think Neil Young owes them a debt.

Creedence had five #2 singles without ever having a #1, the most of any band. Blank Frigging Stare

For as much as they've disparaged it over the years, The Who 100% absolutely stole the show and were *THE* band at Woodstock...they blew everyone else away...
