Great thread, and I am not sure that this specific topic has ever been addressed.

Yeah Taylor/Wood/Jones has, and Mick/Kieth has

But best musician??

That entails a lot of facts.
Covers much ground.

How do you rate musicianship?
Mastery of an instrument.
Mastery of many instruments?
Mastery of songwriting?

Brian probably played more instruments than anyone else.
Pretty much anything with strings, plus numerous woodwinds.

Ronnie plays many strings, but not much else.
Although his pedal steel alone is pretty amazing and in his day, he sure could play well.

Keith plays lotsa guitars. And I don't know about anyone else, but just when I had given up on Keith's abilities, I was speechless after his 12-string acoustic play on As Tears Go By in Shine a Light. I have not said one bad thing about him since.

I think Charlie is amazing - he loves and plays so many different styles.
He holds the Stones together.

But when you also consider songwriting - the ability to produce an entire song and know how you want another instrument to sound, even if you cannot play it.

That ability to hear things before anyone else and translate it to something everyone hears.

Really tough question.

When I listen to Let It Bleed, I think Keith gets the nod.
