platter Ex Member	Re: Anything Dead Thread Reply #4 - May 8^th, 2009 at 2:28pm i saw the dead 3 times. once at giants stadium, once on long island and once up in albany. i wasn't much into them at that time, but i have grown to like them over the years. i think it was the grilled cheese sandwitches and the stinky teenagers running around declaring jerry was god.....all that turned me off.

I got a ticket just 3 hours before the Dead played the Pepsi Center last night. I tried and tried to get in ever since they went on sale 1/24 with no luck. I ended up behind the stage dead" center and got the see the behind the scene moments. The band huddled 2x's before they took the stage and again when they came back for set 2. I couldn't see their hands so I missed seeing them play so to speak, they don't use the video screens at all. And not being a Deadhead i do not know the catalog they pull from....but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

The thing I like the least about seeing The Dead live is the dead crowd/audience base. I've never in my life seen anything like it. Never. I've been going to shows since I was a little girl starting with Bluegrass shows in the early 60's and been in hundreds of concert crowds, but nothing compares. I find the Dead crowd to be quite hard to cope with and since I went to the show alone I was happier to be behind the stage. I didn't get crushed. It's so strange to me. People crawl all over each other during the show, and walk around in droves out in the parking lot in a zombie-like fashion. As I was getting out of there, a guy was in the road blocking the cars acting oblivious and I motioned with my hand for him to move over, which immediately angered him. When I drove on by him he angrily HIT his hand on my car hood, which felt very violating and I had that knee-jerk feeling of rage....but I kept on driving. For a peace and love band, some of these people are obnoxious and self-centered as all get out.

But the band is great.

Bring out your dead!

We just checked the hood of our car and it is dented. If it wasn't such an old buggy I would have had to call security and filed a report for my insurance to cover the repairs, and I didn't go to a concert to have someone assault me on my way out of the parking lot.....I parked in the handicapped section too boot. I am physically impaired ( in pain back, leg, calf, foot, 24/7). It truly amazes me that people are so outright violent and rude, for no reason whatsoever. I work very hard to steady my mind against such behavior.

I fought the law and the law won.

so sorry to hear about your experience martha. sadly the dead became a victim of their own success in their later years, the bogus tickets, the gate crashing, the merchandising, the panhandling, the self absorption caused the band alot of grief. people forgot that it was all about the music.......
