I think it is their best since Some Girls over all. I was giving some thought along the lines of A Bigger Bang being better than Voodoo every now and again for a good six months after ABB came out.
It was more solid, harder rocking, and stripped down BUT now that I look back I gotta give it to Voodoo Lounge between the two ...however certainly absolutely no dis-credit to ABB. ABB was simply great. But in the end Voodoo has more of a time and place feel, plenty rock radio hits, and has a certain warm, looser vibe than ABB and certainly more than Bridges to Babylon.
Now that time has passed I give it to Voodoo because it had "soul" and that won it over for me ..along with the big single-ready radio tunes. AGAIN ...though ABB was simply great.
Voodoo has a "lets have fun together and party" warm vibe where BTB was colder, darker and sounds purposefully more calculated. ABB was hot, hard rocking and "running though one rock track after another" sounding ...but Voodoo touched a place for me when listening to it that gives it the prize.
I remember hearing stuff from it for the first time. It was so fresh and "BIG' sounding with a sort of Beggars/Let it Bleed style to it. Now it is a "feeling" album that just says ....lets have a blast, yet as well has a soulfulness all through it.
I love it.
