Keith is my role model and I've never smoked anything or taken any drug. You know what Keith got me into? Cats like Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, The Master Musicians, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, and Bob Marley. He also got me into playing guitar. He opened me up to a brave new world of music.

hell of a difference though between passing on tips on how to play a guitar and specifically 'glorifying' someone as a role model, which is what the question asked. It didnt mention endorsing the whole package, just the glorification bit. The impression I got from Bitch's comment was that doing so maybe weakens the case for your adverse reaction if someone you're responsible for acts in a similar way.

Steel Wheels' answer is the one you'd hope would be the effect on most people. The reality is though, that it very often isn't the only one. For many, its hard to separate the public persona and lifestyle from the musical inspiration. Keith being referred to as 'the world's most elegantly wasted human being' makes it easier to glorify it, I think. As glencar suggests, you can only hope most kids are sensible enough to differentiate.

yeah well heroin is ruining my life and it isnt me that is doing it, but its all around me, its a destroyer of anything that it touches. Hey I tried it once a long long time ago and I knew it was really strong and powerful so I knew I could never do it again and I never did, but it gets a grip on some people and they cant shake it off the way KEEF did. People think KEEF did it and he turned out ok but we dont really know the pain he caused his family and the people around him, thats the stuff no one talks about.

That's terrible, Bitch and I hope the people around you, whether loved ones or just friends or acquaintances, can be strong enough to stop before it destroys them.

Remember Keith had way more money than most people, and those around him had to be much more tolerant and patient with him because of who he was. Besides, it took him ten years to "shake" the stuff. Rock stars DON'T live in the real world so there's little comparison with people who would spend their life savings and ruin their jobs and relationships and have zero at the end.

You're right about Keith being a bit of a unique case. The Stones' history is full of casualties who tried to keep pace with him and failed.

Yeah KEEF's 2 older kids were raised by grandparents? Its hard to raise kids when you are so high you cant comprehend reality.
But by the time his 2 younger kids were born he already kicked it. I always thought Patti was the level headed parent and she did a great job with Theo & Alex. Oh I wonder if Marlon and Angie ever got into doing drugs.

Here in West Scotland we have a chronic problem with heroin addiction. Sadly, most addicts are unaware of Keith Richards' influence on their affliction, so increasing or decreasing the level of glorification of Keith would offer little, if anything at all, towards adressing the problem.

We might as well just pretend we care about smack addicts, by talking about famous smack addicts, but never bother our smug arses to do anything about smack addiction.

Well thanks for the moral support ~ as it turned out, a good well-meaning friend stepped in and intervened at the right moment, before it was too late. Now it's no longer a matter of life and death, instead its a matter of not slipping back into it, but the hard lesson was learned. Some people have to learn the hard way. I thought this was a city-area problem, but apparently it's everywhere ~ West scotland surprised me. Friends and moral support played a big role in pulling someone out of that life. I dont blame KEEF's influence but I wonder if Mother Teresa would of been a better role mode, lol. ugh.
