The prudent thing to do would be to look up instructions for your specific webcam. Then you can proceed to steps 1-4...

A webcam works with a software program, like MSN/messenger or skype.

once you have installed this software, the camera should work immediately.
IE, start a "video converstation" with msn or skype

sometimes you will have to adjust the settings 1st (in the software),
but this is not too difficult. look under settings for this.

download messenger via the microsoft webpage (it's called "live messenger" now.

however skype is much better for video conversations: www.skype.com
