Eartha Kitt dies at 81

NEW YORK – A family friend says Eartha Kitt, a sultry singer, dancer and actress who rose from South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality, has died. She was 81.

The famed performer known for singing "Santa Baby" and her TV role as Catwoman had colon cancer.

Andrew Freedman says Kitt died Thursday of colon cancer and was recently treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York.

Kitt, a self-proclaimed "sex kitten" famous for her catlike purr, was one of America's most versatile performers, winning two Emmys and getting a third nomination. She also was nominated for two Tony Awards and a Grammy.

I don't think so, however she is mentioned by Bill Wyman in his "Sone Alone" book

In our hut we had a radio speaker, and we would listen to the popular records on British Forces Network. We liked Tennessee Ernie Ford's "Rain" and Pérez Prado's (Mexican) "Cherry Pink", which was number one in England and America. Eartha Kitt and the Crewcuts were also good, but we didn't care much for ballad singers.

I only get my rocks off while I'm sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeping with your girlfriend!!

Apparently, she was going strong until nearly the end (at age 81!). A long life richly lived is all anyone can hope for, and Eartha gave back as good as she got. RIP
