Best shows you have seen in 2008

Yes, their are still a couple of weeks left in the year. So if something slips in under the wire before then,feel free to add it in.But yours truly appears to be done for the year,live show wise. Not that I can complain. Unfortunately our boys didn't hit the road this year. But I did manage to catch some good shows. Altough I will have to separate the top 5 Springsteen shows from the non Springsteen shows. But here goes:

Top 5 Springsteen

5.Anaheim (Not that any of them were bad)

Jeez, this thread got me thinking - I've only been to two gigs in 2008 Shit!

Not such a good year gig-wise...

Well, they were both worth it. Marianne Faithfull playing in a beautiful theater (I almost started crying like the cry-baby I am when she played "Something Better" and spoke about Mick and Keith) and Suede's Brett Anderson in a superb acoustic set.

Havent been to a concert by anyone since July, but even though I didnt get to see the Stones or Dylan in 2008, quality wise it was a year of consistently brilliant shows.

5 Springsteen shows - Milan, Paris and three in Dublin. As good a series of shows as I've seen by anyone. Even more so as they were in stadiums, which isn't normally that enjoyable an experience.

two amazing nights of Neil Young at the Apollo theatre in Manchester in March. Featured a performance of 'Down By the River' on the first night which may well have been the best version of any song I've ever seen at a concert.

Leonard Cohen in Dublin in June. Never thought i'd ever get to see him. What a delight in every way. Mesmerizing performance, and who would have thought that this surreal year will end with a cover of a Leonard Cohen song being the Christmas #1 single in the UK.

Tom Waits in Edinburgh in July. Frenetic, surreal and barking mad. An incredible experience.

Two solo shows by Steve Earle in Belfast in January. In a club. Great to see him in such an intimate setting.

Oh, and Cohen is 74, Young (who almost died from an aneurysm 3 years ago) is 63 and Springsteen is 59. Yet each of them played for around 2 and three quarter hours (Bruce's Milan show clocked in at 3 hours exactly). Ok, so Cohen and Young had intervals in the middle, but that's still some going.

I think they effectively see Keith's set as the 'break' anyway as far as the audience goes.

You would have thought, though, that an act as merchandise-orientated as the Stones are would be quick to exploit the potential increase in revenue that a 30-minute intermission would bring.

A- VH (Charlotte & Gwinnett), Doobies/Chicago, Foreigner/Bryan Adams

B Cheap Trick

C Hippiefest (Eric A, Joey Muld. A, J Bruce C, rest F), Santana (bigger political wanker than Bono, walked out after one of his rants), VH Phillips (EVH drunk and lost power).

D Journey (Went to see Heart and walked after 5 songs)

Gang Of Four at the Gibson Amphitheatre
Mad Juana at the Scene

The most expensive being Mad Juana at $7

Other really awesome ones were Jail Weddings (4 Mondays in a row at the Echo) , Jack Bruce, Sun Trash, The Humpers, Zeke, Melvins at the Troubadour, Bruce Springsteen at the Pond, No Age/Mika Miko at the Central Library, Dresden Dolls at the Wiltern, Coachella.

There's a lot more people who have seen over and over and over again but to be honest it's hard to be impressed or excited when I am mainly just going out of habit.

Oasis, Ryan Adams (Bell Centre, Montreal) - show was great, EPIC night of partying after was better.
The Raconteurs (Kool Haus, Toronto)
The Supersuckers (Horseshoe Tavern, Toronto)
Neil Young (Massey Hall, Toronto) --2nd row centre ---okay, this is #1.
The Black Keys (Pheonix Concert Theatre, Toronto)
Lee "Scratch" Perry (Harbourfront Centre, Toronto)
