http://picasaweb.google.com/iamozzie/WhoLondon2008IndigoO2Monday#slideshow" Review by Ozzie Pottersmith "
" Pete took the the stage looking very cool with his shades on, and his
hat in his hand. Hat went on head, and ICE got the night underway, and
was immediately stopped by Pete, obviously in pain, and agitated by
something. Strange memories from 1979 came rushing in. Pete informed
everyone that he was having an inner ear problem, and would be back as
soon as he got knocked, pounded out. Roger stayed on stage a minute or
so and endured the calls for him to do Magic Bus without Pete, because
I told him I'd seen him do it once before (with the Who.) There were a
million other suggestions, but soon, the stage was empty. JMP, who by
the way was right behind me for the whole show, leaned over and said,
"I'm happy I took a few photos when I did." Which cracked us both up.
But it wasn't long before Pete came back to a loud round of applause,
and Roger said something about doing it again, and they did. Double
the pleasure, double the fun!
The blood started to flow from song one, at which point he held his
finger under his little stage light used for his mixer, and it just
illuminated the damage. He went over to his water bottle, washed it
off and informed us he was having his period through his finger.
It wasn't but a few moments into The Seeker when many knew right off, this
was going to be a powerhouse of a show. Some great banter from Pete
and Roger, Pete once again crediting the front row contingent for the
very expensive car that he might own. The direction of our boisterous
comments to the stage was mostly going to Roger, and at some point
Pete yelled out, "you don't have to stop heckling me just because I
have a cold!" And you could just imagine what that turned loose, and
hilariously it all started with someone yelling "Get on with it!" And
went on from there, Pete loving it, and calling us all a bunch of cunts.
As always, Fragments was fucking amazing for me, and brought out my
customary "play the rest of the fucking album," but it wasn't to
happen. But what did happen was that everything that they did play
seemed to push Pete further to the edge of combustion. He did more
during this show, than I remember him jumping on all the east coast
shows I was at put together. There was a wild abandon to the night's
performance that gave it a special edge. Seeing another blistering NE,
and equally explosive MG/CIYW, a very welcomed version of MB, and an
ITA worthy performance of SK didn't hurt the night's score.
When getting ready to do SK, Pete announced that he was going to do a
song he rarely does in public, and added it might be the first time
he's ever done it in public. As he was getting ready to start, he
asked for his stool, and there was the slightest bit of a delay
getting it out to him, and Roger used the opportunity to ask for a
large comfy chair, which we all thought was hysterical. Roger shoots,
he scores! But then he completely forgot the words to SK and Pete just
kept on playing the beginning while we all sang the beginning, until
it was very clear that Roger was not going to pull it off until Pete
stopped, and he had a chance to regroup. Which he did, and Roger and
Pete, and the audience did a very unique version of SK, with Simon
staying on the stage and clapping along. After the song, Roger states
that now you know why they don't do it in public. At that Pete
answered, "I always knew I'd do it when I was 63. And Roger says, as
he's walking towards the side stage, something like "well I fucking
never did!" Pete answered "I guess you missed it."
We also got a bit more of Pete going on about Christmas presents, and
how "our families weren't getting presents, because you spent all
your money on us. "And then he added, "we are your Christmas presents,
and after a pause, and you, ours." That was great!
Having spent the day with the wonderful and total IAD Queuesters, as
well as having John MP and John Hughes there to share this show with,
was just total perfection. For the encore, JPM took the rail, I was
behind him, and John Huges was behind me, and we all rocked out in
unison. A very wonderful young woman from Greece, that as expected, I
can't recall her name, was the recipient of Trrish's Sunday ticket,
and the front row spot between Jon Pywell (sp?) and myself. It
couldn't have gone to a more wonderful and appreciative Who fan!!I
truly had a blast surrounded by all the great people at that show. The
Tommy encore was fab as always, and T&T was spectacular in the closing
spot. I'm sure I've left out plenty, but I'm also sure you'll be
hearing more about that show.
Kinkaid:
Simon, proud pop with a camera, taking pictures during most of the set,
gives Ben a big hug, off stage after the set. I totally showed them
the love on Sunday, and had no fucking clue who it was, until someone
told me tonight that "Simon was watching from the side on Sunday, and
he now he really likes you." I thought that was fucking funny, and I
had a great time with that band on both Saturday, and Sunday. The lead
singer was such a young Mick Jagger type, and I immediately loved
him. Plus he had some fantastic tight coral blue trousers, and a
beautiful bracelet. And it really helped that he was fucking talented.
The band was tight, and very easy to listen to, and did a great job. "
