Oh yes! That's tight! I haven't heard that one in ages. I love the way that they covered Booker T and the MGs and at the same time manage to get a little "roots rock rhythm" reggae in there as well. I was just loading my Ipod with all my Clash albums and it has reinvigorated my love for this band! Pdog had sent me a great boot of the Clash from their long stint in NYC at Bond's Casino. It's a killer and I hadn't really understood just how good it was until I listened to it through my Ipod. So, again Pdog, thanks my man! Very strong stuff. Damn what I wouldn't give for a chance to have seen them. At least I got to meet both Joe and Mick. Great blokes.

When you post like this, it is hard to hold a (political) grudge with you...

That song has one of my all time fav. lines. The all night drug prowling wolf, who looked so sick in the sun. And the way it is sung, it is brutal and powerful... in the face lyrics. I'm going to keep track of your song of the day, and make a clah playlist. I was thinking, I've yet to get my swollen on with them at the gym...

fyi... Straight To Hell is my all time fave Clash tune!

Fuck.. I love The Clash!!!

Well the election is over my friend, and frankly, I was getting sick to death of talking about it anyway.

As for the line in Hammersmith Palais. I agree! I love that whole verse. I also like the line about the "Burton Suits" which was a direct slam against The Jam. The album version is great because Strummer actually laughs as he delivers the line. Classic!

I gotta tell ya, though, a right-winger who digs the Clash is even stranger to me than one who likes the Stones.

Still by some distance the greatest band to have emerged in the last 35 years or so :

"Guns of Brixton" is still my favourite ever Clash song, but I'd also like to give a tip of the hat to a truly great song on a much-maligned album - namely "This is England" from "Cut The Crap" (an album ruined in the studio by Bernie Rhodes - the songs when played live a year before had great potential)

"This is England" was a worthy finale. I love that nod to Wilson Pickett in the lyrics - ie, "land of a thousand stances...."

You could kill two birds with one stone and listen to Cash & Strummer's wonderful duet on Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" which is on the 'Cash Unearthed' box set (Joe's version - with Johnny's vocal removed - is on his "Streetcore" album).

Both of them were dead within months of the song being recorded.

Today's Clash song - "Lose This Skin" from "Sandanista!"
