Dirty Work an underrated album??

I´ve been listening to Dirty Work since the last week What the fuck?
and I say It´s a pretty good album. True Rock and Roll
rough guitars and you can taste all the hate between the Twins on the lyrics
It seems Stones had their best records when
Mick and Keith are in the middle of some personal/artistic fight
or when there are breakup rumors.
and they always comeback with a Let it Bleed,Exile,Emotional Rescue
or Dirty Work.
It would be a great tour, Stones should play more often songs of this album
which it´s better than Undercover or Steel Wheels.

Let It Bleed, Exile and ER all followed albums which rank as their best and didnt come at a time when there was talk of Mick and Keith falling out.

True rock n roll and rough guitars - yes, but also a collection of largely mediocre (and in some cases downright awful) songs. If the songs arent there, then all the attitude in the world isnt going to salvage things.

Add to that a lousy production (Charlie never sounded worse), the worst singing style of Jagger's entire career (those horrible 'barking' vocals) and a Stones album where Mick's songwriting contribution was at it's lowest ebb ever. The whole thing was a mess with the five of them hardly playing together for much of the time.

They didnt tour behind it for two simple reasons - they hated each others guts and most of the band were in appalling physical condition. If they'd gone on the road, they'd never have worked together again. They probably wouldnt have even finished the tour.

Stu dying just after the album was finished summed the disaster that was 1985 up in a nutshell.

Best things on the album - "Sleep Tonight" and Page's solos on "One Hit".

The outtakes are better.

Underrated?  I say no.  Poorly rated, and for good reasons that Gazza covered and more.

A superb album.  Mick's vocals on 'Had It With You' are some of his best, along with the drumming on the title cut (not Charlie)

We have to go through this every few months, RWC - the Dirty Work Defenders of inDecency (DWDD) are a smaller and more fervent collective than even the Emotional Rescue He Men.  You are correct in your assessment and obviously a free thinker able to escape the groupthink re: this album as the one Stones fans can kick around with impunity.

Yes.  It is evil.  Yes.  It is difficult.  Yes.  It KILLS.

I shall now sing the praises of "Hold Back", and Gazza will remind me that it's their worst song ever! Wow!

And to all them what hates the cover - buy the vinyl with the shrink wrap still on it, and it looks like they're all bathed in blood.  Problem solved.

Forget it, Perks.  Max has abandoned his post.  It is up to us to soldier on in defense of the rage, the might, the sheer onslaught of terror and brutality that is Dirty Work.

Dirty Work brings a switchblade to a pillow fight.
Dirty Work spits in the listener's food before serving it.
Dirty Work runs you off the road and laughs while it gives you the finger.
Dirty Work steals your car stereo and makes you go buy a new copy of Dirty Work, because Dirty Work was in the CD player.

Apparently the reason why Mick was recently in India was because he was making one last ditch attempt to locate the tune for "Hold Back".... the rumoured press conference was apparently to announce that after 23 years they'd called off the search.

The DWDD's sources actually have him in India desperately trying to find as radical a blend of hard rock, slide guitar, hip hop and noise, in order to break away from the tired verse/chorus/middle eight trap he knows his songwriting has rutted into.

"If you don't take chances you don't make advances," noted Jagger at the press conference.  "But I couldn't find nuthin' so bold as that sawng.  We will never again record anything as wild, weird, and unforgiving as 'Hold Back'.  Our best days, truly, are behind us."

WHAT PROSE!

Hear the voice of experience, a word from the wise
Grab opportunities while you're alive

Cause if you follow the crowd
Cause if you act like a coward
You'll end up yelling out loud

Hold back, you'll regret it some day
Choke on that, don't let it pass you by
Hold back, you better seize the hour

If you look in your history books, if you delve in the past
Stalin and Roosevelt, yeah, they both took their chances
And George grasped the nettle, it's do or dare
From the banks of the Delaware

Yes, don't hold back
Trust your gut reactions
Be bold, be bold, baby
If you don't take chances, you won't make advances, hold back

Yeah

Don't matter if you ain't so good looking
If you ain't sharp as a blade, don't be afraid

Hold back, life is passing you by
Choke on that, keep on moving
Keep on moving, yeah
If you run with the crowd, yeah, you're going to end up, end up in the madhouse
Shouting those cold walls down

Yeah, don't hold back

Hold back, you're messing with your life
Hold back, yeah
Life goes by fast sometimes, be bold, be bold
Be bold baby, you're wasting your time

I want your attention, so pin back your ears
I've been climbing this tree of promises for over 40 years
The visions get broken and bust on the ground
So watch me, watch me rebound

Yeah, don't hold back
You're wrecking your life, choke on that, yeah
Don't hold back, you're messing with your life
