BMS Rumor Report: The Kinks to reunite for new album and tour?

Will The Kinks reunite? It seems talk of a reunion has been heating up over the past year, and it got even hotter earlier this week when frontman Ray Davies told BBC News that the The Kinks are writing songs for a potential reunion album.
"We've started a little bit of this and that," he told BBC News. "But it is too early to judge the quality," he said. "It depends if there's good music. We want good new music. I'd like to do it as a more collaborative thing than we used to do."
In 1996, after three decades together, The Kinks disbanded in 1996. Earlier this year, Davies indicated to Billboard.com that new material would be part of a Kinks reunion. "I can't get a band together just to play the old hits," Davies said. "They'd have to be able to do, like, 10% new material. I think that will be the determining factor in the long run."
It appears that bassist Pete Quaife and drummer Mick Avory would be open to a reunion. However, guitarist Dave Davies (Ray's brother) has been very opposed to a reunion in the past. In 2004, guitarist Dave Davies suffered a stroke. He has since returned to performing in recent years but has been opposed to a Kinks reunion. Last year, Dave Davies responded to another wave of reunion rumors in a message on his website that stated, "it would be like a poor remake of 'Night of the Livin (sic) Dead'" and that Ray has been doing "Karaoke Kinks shows since 1996." Ray responded by telling Billboard.com, "He's getting well enough to shout at me. That's a good sign."
BMS Verdict: Probably. It all comes down to the brothers putting their differences aside for at least a couple of months. We'd be open to it but in the meantime, we suggest that you check out Ray's solo gig at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence next month.
