The album is produced by Hal Willner and features guest appearances from a variety of musicians. It will be released as a standard 10-track CD, and as a special 18-track edition with a DVD documentary by Anne Rohart under Jean-Baptiste Mondino's artistic direction, with both Marianne Faithfull and Hal Wilner commenting on the song selection. A collectible 2-disc vinyl pressing will also be available. The album was recorded in NYC at the Sear Sound Studio.

It's Merle Haggard babe...

The warden led a prisoner down the hallway to his doom
I stood up to say good-bye like all the rest
And I heard him tell the warden just before he reached my cell
'Let my guitar playing friend do my request.'

Sing me back home with a song I used to hear
Make my old memories come alive
Take me away and turn back the years
Sing Me Back Home before I die

I recall last Sunday morning a choir from 'cross the street
Came to sing a few old gospel songs
And I heard him tell the singers 'There's a song my mama sang.
Can I hear once before we move along?'

Sing me back home, the song my mama sang
Make my old memories come alive
Take me away and turn back the years
Sing Me Back Home before I die

I can't believe it. If you asked me if this is a possibility yesterday without knowing this news I would of said "uh...no...I seriously, seriously doubt that one".

Never thought girlfriends from any of them from the 60's would work together anymore. How the heck did this come together? After all these years?

Keith did it during the Toronto sessions in 77 when he was looking at seven years in the big house.

The Dead also did a dandy version in 72.

It's a real tear-jerker for sure.

I sometimes wonder if you are truly for real Ian or just some clever alias created by one of our brilliant regulars.

Well by golly gee, how did it come together? Could it be that Keith and Marianne (one of them there "girlfriends") have remained FRIENDS throughout the years? And that Marianne, a very talented ARTIST in her own right, asked HER FRIEND to collaborate with her?

Do ya think that might be plausible???

er..Marianne was Mick's girlfriend - not (apart from a one nighter) Keith's. So why should it be a surprise?

Marianne has stayed close to the Stones 'family' for decades - as has Anita.

Keith's relative class in how he's dealt with the women in his life down the years - compared to that of many other musicians including some of his fellow bandmates - is well documented.

A quick read through Marianne's autobiography will give you an idea of how strong a bond she's had with Keith down the years - more so than she's had with Mick.

Seems funny Keith covers this song going by my generation of it, in '69 my Brother was a huge C & W fan, especially Merle Haggard, while I was into "Let It Bleed" (just released) but Sing Me Back Home is a song my Brother played over & over, I would never have imagined that one day Keith would cover this.

Think its better known as being from West Side Story.

Try Tom Waits' version. You might see it in a different light.

Lady Jane,

I didn't know they were still close. I had no idea they were still friends, were connected still, or spoke at all.

When did not knowing something become a crime? I KNOW how they knew each other in the first place obviously but never seen them reuniting in any way. Never knew it was a crime to have an opinion on something.

Sondheim wrote for West Side Story? Are you sure you're not thinking of Tonight?

I'm not familiar with "Tonight" but, yes, Stephen Sondheim wrote the lyrics for West Side Story and Leonard Bernstein wrote the music. "Somewhere" is from WSS.

"Tonight" is the correct title for the song. But yes, it's the same as "Somewhere"... Smiley
